Description of 🦈 Enhanced SharkTapUSB Ethernet Sniffer

Ethernet Test Access Port that does not require an ethernet port, for thin notebook or netbook PCs. Uses USB 3 or USB 2 port on PC (Also provides a CAT-5 TAP port). A 'Test Access Port' allows you to see the packets on an ethernet link. Directly supports 10-, 100- or 1000Base-T links. Intended to be used with the open source Wireshark program, or equivalent. The Gen2 SharkTapUSB features 'carbon copy' copper repeater technology for minimum impact on the monitored network. The carbon copies of bi-directional data are aggregated onto a single wired or USB Test Access Port (TAP). Power-over-ethernet pass through. (For power-fail bypass, search "SharkTapBYP") 750mA current. Non-conductive plastic cover. Auto cross-over for cables. USB3 cable included

Worked great in diagnosing a serious problem

Worked great in diagnosing a serious problem. I connected the USB to my Windows laptop and Windows installed the network adapter. Plug in each side of the connection and you're ready to ride. Worked fine for me on Win 10.

Pros
  • Testing Ethernet access port that doesn't require an Ethernet port for thin laptops or netbooks. Uses a USB 3 or USB 2 port on the PC (also offers a CAT 5 TAP port)
Cons
  • Many things

Works great: Networking Products

It does exactly what it's supposed to do and we don't see any noticeable slowdown. I left it on for many weeks and it just keeps working. Haven't used it on a PoE line yet.

Pros
  • Designed to be used with open source Wireshark or equivalent.
Cons
  • Some cons

Better than port mirroring on a managed switch.

Works as advertised! So far I've only used Wired Tap and haven't had to try USB. This is the only good way to debug LLDP issues. Many managed switches do not mirror LLDP link-local packets or only show one direction of LLDP traffic. But this sniffer shows both and works great!

Pros
  • Test Access Port allows you to view packets over an Ethernet connection. Supports 10, 100 or 1000Base-T channels directly.
Cons
  • There are problems
