good wap! Yes Amazon! Hiss to NETGEAR Support

I purchased this NETGEAR WAC120 Wireless Access Point (WAP) and installed it in my home. The product was received on time and in good condition with one caveat: the ethernet cable that came with the device was defective. I've tried and tried to log into WAP to set it up, but not on every attempt. Finally, I replaced the Ethernet cable that came with the NETGEAR device and it turned on immediately. wap (smiles). I confess I had to use the manual, no shame so it's included. However, I alsoโ€ฆ

Speed โ€‹โ€‹Boost in Computers and Accessories

So far so good. The setup went well. I had two half calls. First, I didn't notice the tiny "edit" icon in the bottom-right corner to change security for a few minutes in the UI. I had to force the 80MHz frequency into the 5GHz N/AC band. At first it got stuck at 200 Mbit/s. The data transfer speed from my NAS to my laptop increased to the mid range of 20Mbps. It was in my youth with the previous Netgear WNDR400 router. In terms of range, 2nd floor phones and tablets report strong signalโ€ฆ

Do not buy this device

I can't set up the device for my network and tried to call support but nobody seems to work for them. I was on hold for over 4 hours over 2 days and never spoke to anyone. I tried their email support but they are just useless, all they offer is troubleshooting, 101 fixes are no real help. I'll work on it one day and if I can't get it to work I'll be returning this device.

  • A dream come true
Cons
  • I will be silent

Unreliable WiFi after a day or two.

I usually have good luck with Netgear products but this WAC120 seems like a lemon. I've tried all sorts of bug fixes and firmware updates but the issues haven't gone away and upon further investigation others have had the exact same issues. After a day or two, wireless connections slow down to a bare minimum and eventually die. Rebooting the access point fixes the issue for a day or two, after which Wi-Fi performance begins to slow down again. Netgear's support was of no real help other thanโ€ฆ
