Overheated, the slowest in modems

Overheats quickly with heavy internet use. The speed drops sharply. It works well when the room temperature is below 70 or with an active cooler. To install an active cooler, you need to open the case, which will void the warranty. not worth your money. You can get a used ARRIS for $20-$25 with twice the channels. Almost all ARRIS models have excellent performance histories and an equally convenient plug-and-play setup. I believe the poor cooling is due to the poor construction of the cheap…

Destroyed by a storm.

This modem has worked very well for 8 months. The warranty has now expired and Netgear no longer provides support for it. After a heavy thunderstorm, I can no longer connect to the modem. It was connected to the surge protector when the power went out and I turned everything off until the power came back. However, the LAN light is not lit and my devices say there is nothing on the other side of the Cat5 cable. I don't know if anyone had similar problems with this modem; There isn't much useful…

Doesn't work with RCN cable internet service

I have RCN high speed cable internet service in the north east. We've had several Arris/Motorola RCN cable modems with no setup issues, but were unable to set up Netgear. RCN has a self-configuration web page if you swap out the modem to configure it automatically, but it still fails with that modem even after a reboot and reset. I ended up calling RCN tech support, we went through a few steps, they requested a MAC address and registered the Netgear modem in their system, but they still…

Cheap little workhorse

basic and it's good. I bought this on a whim because I was paying my ISP $10 a month to use their really crappy modem. Of course, my ISP only gives me 15 down and 1 up. Which is terrible. Despite this, this modem coped with the task. Use it with a sudden connection. Works great. I had a hard time activating it in flash link service at first. It was absolutely useless to use the sudden link customer support hotline on the phone. I recommend giving yourself at least an hour and using the flash…

So far great for computers and accessories

I'm nervous and bought this modem to replace a broken Motorola SB6120 I've had for almost 10 years. It's 16x4 and almost doubles the carrying capacity I had on the bike, which is good news. When Spectrum came in to restore service they left me an Arris GD1670A which is a 32x4 and with my current plan it doesn't matter that I get the same throughput both up and down as that is the real difference. After receiving the device I called Spectrum, gave them the MAC address and was online for a few…

Tough attitude. Ideal for streaming and surfing.

TL;DR - A bit difficult to fix at first because I've never done it before but figured it out. The modem works as expected and I've had almost no problems on my end since it was activated. Good speed for streaming and casual browsing. It works well with Netgear Wifi router. Troubleshooting Details: Initially it wasn't working with my cable provider's internet, but I took 2 steps to fix it. First I went to "Network Status" -> "Details" -> "DHCP" and enabled DHCP. This allows it to provide…
