STOP SEARCH. IT'S ONE.

STOP SEARCHING HERE FOR A LENS AND NEGATIVE SCANNER. THIS IS THE BEST. I have a lot of slides and negatives from over 60 years ago, most of which I inherited from my parents who were always taking pictures. My wife encouraged me to do something about all the boxes in the garage that only contained slides. So I started looking online for scanner options. I almost found others found but after reading mostly negative reviews I kept looking. When I found this scanner and saw exceptionally good…

  • Absolutely amazing!

  • So far so good

The results are worth the pain.

Top notch scanner compromised by second class software and fiddly USB interface. As the saying goes, you don't get what you don't pay for. The good news is that the downsides are surmountable if you're patient. The included software doesn't support all scanner features like multiple exposure for maximum scan quality (requires an update, I went straight to VueScan to use my Linux box for scanning). The scanner's USB interface seemed to be on the edge of USB 2.0 specifications and hung when…

Bringing old slides back to life

I've tried several inexpensive slide scanners in the past and have always given up after a few scans because the results were terrible. I then did some research online and came to the conclusion that I would have to buy a scanner for around $2,000 to get good results. For several weeks I experimented a bit with taking slides with a digital camera. There are many videos on the web that describe how to do this. But again, I wasn't satisfied with the balance of quality and performance. I needed to

Pros
  • Several competitors
Cons
  • Unreliable

I bought this product as a gift for my 80 year old parents who wanted to digitize their old collection of 35mm slides (boxes and boxes of old family photos). . I bought this scanner because other reviewers said the digital image quality after scanning was pretty good for the money (ie it was supposedly good value). I can't say anything about the image quality because the scanner didn't work. But after 2 hours of trying to set it up I came to the conclusion that this product is not intended for…

Pros
  • Very good value for money

  • Unbelievable price

Adequate scanner for most needs but poor quality control

A little background first. I have been scanning negatives for many years. Over the years I have used several Minolta tablets and a couple of film scanners which I use for archiving. My 35mm scanner is a Minolta Dimage 5400 Mk 1 which uses a CFL lamp instead of an LED which decades later now takes about 15 minutes to warm up before I can start scanning. The scanner also has a very shallow depth of field (DOF), making it difficult to focus the entire image, especially on negatives that have…

Pros
  • Good product for the price
