One worked fine, the other not so much

So far so good - but please note I only received this hard drive yesterday and am using it as a drive today. Plugged into my laptop's USB port, seen the WD software but didn't need it, transferred photos, videos and files to the drive, all went well. However, I bought two of them. This smooth experience was not repeated with the second drive (also 1TB WD My Passport). When I plugged the second one into the USB port, the drive light just kept blinking. Blink, blink and blink. Wouldn't connect…

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • The cable is shorter than the others

Nonexistent Western Digital (WD) support

Does the job but horrible - nonexistent - WD support. I've had two annoying problems since I got this drive that I couldn't beat (the password-protected drive needs to be unlocked every day; and when I delete a file on my PC, I immediately get a popup saying it's the Disk Recycle Bin damaged and needs to be emptied). Most of WD's support consists of customer blogs. Catch up with a live person? Yeah right! I had a previous pass and liked it until it died after dropping it. Due to the annoying…

Good size but has issues with Mac

Pros: Fast shipping, fun colors, and small, thin size Cons: Difficult to format and eject from Mac (details below) After formatting on Mac (once you plug it in, the ReadMe will tell you how to choose Mac or PC) it was in read-only mode so I couldn't save anything on it until I deleted its contents, which were just an introduction/manual and that Format changed/set drive to "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" with 1 partition. I watched a YouTube video on how to do it. I could then easily save data to

I do not recommend. for computers and accessories

I used this device (once) to transfer family photos and videos. The second time I tried to use it, my laptop driver recognized the device but I couldn't access it through my computer. I tried another (desktop) computer - same problem. After some technical advice and research, I found that the "Unallocated" message in the Disk Management window meant the device was corrupt and my content was unrecoverable. This could not be the result of physical damage as the passport had sat in a drawer for 9…

Windows 10 issues - beware

One of the reasons I bought it was the easy-to-use backup software it advertised. I was looking for something better than Windows 10. It was also highly rated by Revain. I've found that it comes with its own software as well as a number of other company programs that need to be installed. After installing three WD software packages, I found that their proprietary backup software could not recognize the backup drive even though Windows Explorer showed it was there. I tried resetting it and then…

  • A dependable drive with WD reliability

I survived the move safely, works great by the way.

The blue version was $10 less than the other colors. When I bought it, it was just under $50, while others cost more than $59 or a little less. I already know why it's cheaper than the blue one - I don't know if anyone remembers, but a long time ago this little hard drive was painted blue and sold as a PS4 backup drive for a whopping $99 or some other outrageous price like that. Because of that price, they sat on the shelves, and in the end I didn't see them on the specified shelves anymore…

  • Manufacturer's limited 3-year warranty
Cons
  • Hard to remember, but it was

I have two. So far they have been reliable.

Protects all my media. It loaded my videos and photos fairly quickly and it's great to be able to share them if I want or if a family member or friend wants a copy. You never know when your computer or phone will crash, as I've learned the hard way. Now I have them on this device. Also, you never know when a free cloud service will decide they're going to start charging you. I once had 6GB of media, videos and photos on Flickr. After a few years, they decided that they would now charge for…

Pros
  • Password protection with hardware encryption
Cons
  • No color required

Reliable, efficient and VERY CONVENIENT!

I've bought 5 Passport portable hard drives in the last 5 years and I love them! I keep refilling them and then I get more! They do not require an external power source and simply connect to a laptop or computer with the included USB cable. I use them to clean my laptop and our phones for optimal performance. They're small enough and convenient enough to just pop in and use. I would like to give a warning: if you use a multiport USB hub with it, use it with a power adapter. One of my passes…

Pros
  • Automatic backup with included WD Backup software
Cons
  • Hard to tell
