📀 Plextor PXL-910S Professional Internal SATA DVD/CD Writer Drive - Bulk Pack (Acumen Disc Edition) Review

Plextor has always had a good reputation in the past, so I decided to try another. I've only used it once so far, but it was smooth and quiet and burned my DVD successfully.

This is a very good and efficient DVD-R/W drive. Plextor makes very good DVD drives and this one is no exception. However, when they say "bare disc," they really mean it. I was expecting the drive to come with at least a cardboard sleeve or bubble wrap or something else to protect it during transit. But no, it just came in a clear polypropylene plastic bag and was in a shipping box with other items I ordered. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that. Luckily, the other items I ordered weren't

The form factor is correct so it fits well in the drive bay and at least four screw holes are aligned on each side so I can use the holes or slots in the drive cage to adjust the depth but that wasn't it necessary. The holes worked fine. The SATA and SATA power connectors are properly positioned and functioning properly. I only used the disk to install drivers and utilities on a new computer, but it worked fine for that. So far there is only one downside. It's noisy. It sounds like a USB vacuum

Drive is fine. I had a particular use for it, though with replacing it in a robotic disc changer. I couldn't get it to work. Although it looked identical to the original drive inside and out, the tray opens about 1/2 inch less than the original. And indeed, compared to some other drives I own, the same problem is present. So if exactly reproducible behavior is needed, consider that. This event is of course never noticed by almost every other user.

When I first unplugged the SATA data cable, part of the drive connector broke off and mated the cable, rendering both the Plextor drive and the cable unusable. Did you use fragile plastic? The installation instructions are not very clear, but installing and assembling the enclosure is easy. Used to test a DVDRW drive that has been removed from an old computer. Ubuntu recognizes drive and DVD but won't play VLC USB port speed seems to be a critical factor.
