Remove the dust cover

First I bought the wrong version for my truck and had to return it and buy this one. The key for me was that there is a dust cover on the tailgate handle that needs to be removed. He took it off and made it all fit together properly. Then it remains only to install and test everything correctly. It only keeps the passenger side from being immobile, but it's solid steel and shouldn't be a problem. I'm assuming you need a lockpick to open without a key.

Works best in truck body and tailgate accessories

. I bought this to latch the back door of my 2000 Ford Ranger. It comes with fairly minimal instructions but I had no trouble installing it, it only took about 15 minutes. This places the tailgate handle about 3/16" from where it sits from the factory, which some people may not like, but I knew that before I ordered it from reading other reviews. The price seems a bit high but I couldn't find cheaper alternatives so I went for this one.

Good idea but badly done.

Installed in my 95 Ford F150. As mentioned in the previous review, the instructions, if you call them that, are grossly inadequate. The device is weak and in my case had to be modified to make it work. Time will tell how safe my back goal will be. I really hope not. I wouldn't even recommend you install this unless you have an engineering degree or a solid mechanical background. As mentioned in the previous review, buy some new plastic brackets before starting this project. I made new metal…

Not impressed. Best in Exterior Accessories

This trunk lock may or may not work for you, but there are a few obvious problems. First of all, the installation instructions are a joke. I've been tinkering with such tasks for over forty years and it still took me a long time to figure out how to install the locking mechanism. When you consider how easy it would be to post a video on YouTube and provide a link for customers, there's no excuse for that. The second and more important problem is that the locking mechanism's cam, which has to…

  • Hard to say

This is the only product designed for this application. I had to lock the tools under the covers. So far this works great, but if you expect a product to be easy to apply, this isn't the case. Each part that came into contact with another had to be bent in a vise to ensure proper engagement. Also, you reuse two screws on the tailgate handle and they are barely long enough, if I were to do it again I would use longer ones. You would think that at such a high price they could provide a…

Great idea. I was worried that I

Brilliant idea. For many years it bothered me that I couldn't lock the tailgate. Although I was able to lock the lid, it wasn't secure. Then I started looking for secondary locks/latches/buttons and found this. Installation is a bit tricky as everything fits together perfectly and as it turns out you really need to follow the instructions and set it up correctly, which isn't hard at all but you know some people like to just go ahead. So the first time I forgot a part that ended up crooked and…

WORKS PERFECTLY! If you have mechanical skills.

This product was actually pretty cool, but you need some mechanics to put it together and make it work properly. You need to make some minor modifications to the tailgate and stems. inside it's pretty plain and simple. To be honest I was concerned with all the reviews about the bed but that's probably because people didn't make simple things like minor mental adjustments in the rear that required an adjustment to make this work properly with the lock. Took about 10 minutes to install, I had to…

Doesn't fit nor work properly

First, I have a 2002 Ford Ranger Edge with a steel handle. I bought this item (PL2300) like you all to lock the back door. The item arrived quickly, but the factory packaging was crumpled. The shipping package was in excellent condition. I opened the parts box and saw that there was dirt on the silver metal element. Strange, I thought, since it had to be brand new. So I install it and remove all necessary parts from my truck. Install the lock yourself correctly on the handle and adjust it to…

Great product with poor quality control.

I sent back the first two I received and am using the third one which is also . we call it a fad. The first two - purchased from Revain - lacked the spring that forces the latch to close. The cam of the lock opens it, allowing the handle to open the tailgate. But without the spring, the assembly will never close and will be permanently unlocked. The ones bought by Revain seemed solid in every other way. I thought Pop & Lock would probably prefer to send out a cheap nib rather than processing…
