Pump works surprisingly well

This pump actually fit my 1997 XJ and bolted right on. I hooked up a 3/8 fitting and installed an AN6 fitting to convert my steering gear output to 1/2 reverse. No whine and 33 revs like butter with no whine, that nice feeling of having the front diff locked and the steering still feeling light. Thanks!

Pros
  • Well built

  • No

Noisy on day 1, 3000 miles, almost blown new 4.7 liter engine

Easy to install and works just over a year, working on a 4.7 liter Grand Cherokee with hydraulic fan, although noisy from day one. I dismissed this as a noisy pump despite spending 3 hours blowing air, turning the wheel lock and adding liquid. But 3000 miles in this pump got me hooked today, the pulley snapped and the belt dropped. The engine has only 6k miles on the projected 4.7. Luckily I caught this in time and bought a 5 inch shorter belt to get around and get home (#815K6).

Pros
  • Worth the money
Cons
  • Everything is great

Works on jeep xj 4.0 2001! More power, easier steering!

I actually wanted to scrap and return this pump after buying a couple of fittings that didn't work to convert it for use in a xj 4.0 jeep. It turns out all you have to do is swap the high-pressure fitting from the old pump to the new pump. I had to remove the pump/pulley to get it off. You will need 26mm to remove the fitting that comes with this pump. But once I get that headache out of the way, it actually has more capacity than my standard pump and controlling the low speed is a lot easier…

Pros
  • New to my collection

failed in less than a year

I just had to replace it because it suddenly started leaking just as it was sitting in my driveway. I can't tell if it ripped somehow or if the seal just failed, but it's only been on my car for a few months. Couldn't really see where the leak was coming from because it was wet from spilled power steering oil. I suspect a seal between the pump and the tank, but it wasn't worth disassembling and investigating further. I used it for the main load at my local parts store to get a replacement…

Pros
  • good product for the price
Cons
  • weak

Zero problems so far.

Replaced whining and complaining regular pump. 1000km so far. 2004 Grand Cherokee, 4.7-N. Save yourself the hassle of pulling the pulley. A new Dorman pulley (Dorman 300-310) is only $12. I used a 3/8-16 bolt with a nut, bushing and some washers to press onto the new pulley. There was tight pressing but not difficult. The new pump is quiet after I blow out the air bubbles. I never realized how tight my steering wheel was until I replaced the pump. Parking is now a dream. The hydraulic fan now…

Pros
  • Provides pleasant sensations
Cons
  • Not the best
