I have completed 2 of these in the last 18 months. The first lasted 18 months and the second one I ordered broke immediately. When I tried to start the engine it started knocking. It does start the engine but makes a terrible grounding noise when running so I'm bringing it back and trying the Sierra instead.

Gave it to my boat mechanic and the bolt broke as soon as they tried to connect the battery cable. There was a 30 day return/exchange period so I was unlucky that Revain didn't work for me even though they sold them direct. Don't waste time ordering from Revain, contact your Marine dealer and get at least a warranty backing up the product.

I have decided to buy a reliable genuine Quicksilver starter for my twin inboard boat so that it will last longer than any universal starter. Well when I opened the box I didn't notice the Quicksilver label at all!, not on the box, packaging, no starter. I paid 3 times the total price. It's illegal to rip off customers and it's not a third party, it's from Revain's warehouse

This "OEM" starter was purchased in July 2019. At the end of the 2020 boating season, it starts to fail (i.e. it won't start until you gently tap it with a hammer). I could pay a lot less for a starter that's only expected to last a year. For background, my boat is afloat, covered and closed, out of the weather when not in use, so it's not a harsh environment. I expect better than that.

I know this starter is more than double the price of other starters sold at Revain. But if you want a reliable starter that won't let you down, this is the starter you should buy. It rolls fast and is well built. Spend the money and get a starter that you won't have to replace after 1 or 2 years. Just installed and works great! I will need some time on the water before I can give an actual review. But overall it looks and works great! Make sure you buy the correct OEM bolts, especially when upgrading from old big starters to this new smaller, higher torque starter. This starter worked well. It failed after a few months. I tried calling Mercury to make a warranty claim as my purchase has a 1 year warranty on the product. Mercury told me to call Amazon. I called Amazon and they told me I had to call Mercury. I then went to the Mercury dealer to run diagnostics to attempt a warranty claim.
