The battery cables were misaligned and it took a few sheets of paper as spacers for the remote to even turn on. It was a little tricky to program and requires a little thought to use. The menu button is used to toggle functions on the 4-way directional buttons, which isn't mentioned anywhere in its manual. I was trying to use this controller with a Sansui TV. The programming code I used was one of several listed in the document that came with the console. Once programmed, I was able to turn the TV on and off. The volume worked great. The numeric keypad also worked. I was able to use all the functions except for the MENU button.
