🚗 Reese Towpower 74642 Brakeman Compact Brake Control with Time-Based Functionality Review

Everything is fine so far. I don't tow much, but I needed something inexpensive and quick to install on my '85 diesel Ford. The instructions were great; very clear and concise. I've pulled a heavy, fully loaded horse trailer through the Sierras with this setup with no problems. My steering column is HOT and I was concerned that this module would fry when installed in the column, no problems so far. I don't know how long this will take, but so far so good!

I had the wiring harness for my make and model so I didn't have to splice the truck wiring. The harness connector was a Ford connector from a previous controller, so I just cut out the old one and connected the ends of the controller to the ends of the harness connector; works wonderfully. Just works. It appears to be 100% identical to the Draw-Tite branded device. I had one of each, as did my parents. This was bought for her to replace one that was starting to fall off after almost 20 years of use. For the price you can't complain about this durability in my opinion. This is, of course, one of the "Timer" type blocks. I know some people really like inertial blocks. The brake controller was well packaged and arrived before the promised date. It is very easy to install and compact so hitting it with a shin or knee is not a problem. I've encountered this issue with other large or bulky controllers. Ouch! The only negative I can say about this product is that if you are installing this controller in a later model Ford using the factory wiring harness you will need to do some homework on the correct wiring diagram.
