Very easy to install. You may need to make a trial run in a piece of wood you don't need to determine the optimal drill diameter, as hardwood and softwood behave differently, but the "trial" device can then be easily removed and used. I didn't take actual measurements, but these devices have a very strong "holding power". (I used 1/4”-20 devices). Additional strength can be obtained by using epoxy or a similar adhesive. Highly recommended!

They are strong and the threads are solid. If used in softwood or plywood they are fine, no problem. When using with hardwoods (especially oak) I had trouble getting the insert all the way in without removing the hex (wrench) portion of the insert. I've tried making the mortise hole a little larger with a drill but not very well. I was afraid to go up a size, I have limited size drills and would have to go for a full size 16. I have seen many carpenters use tenons which they have to drive in. They then use small set screws to keep them from falling out. I could never understand WHY they wouldn't use it. Screws are not required. May be sunken. You will still drill the hole. Even my Lazy Boy chairs had different pieces and the base was falling off. I used reverse screws to secure it before I bought them. If you decide to try these, you will NEVER use the others again. They won't just fall for you.

This is a good product but the thread was marked incorrectly. Since I bought the shorter ones with the same thread designation and the other hardware fitted perfectly, I can confirm that the problem was with them.
