I'll start with the pros. I love how wide these gates open; It's wider than my last two and I can get the laundry basket through without lifting it over it. I personally like this awning for the purpose I had in mind: to keep two Shih Tzus out of the living room. It is made of 90% metal and 10% injection molded plastic/resin. I think if this gate is used by one person and patiently, slowly and without breaking the latch it should work. Since it's a spring-loaded plastic locking mechanism, a family of 4 or 5, and a lot of through movement, I can see the mechanism is likely to fail quickly.
