I have purchased this item TWICE and will do so again as the first two have worn out. I had the same problems listed above. The connectors broke and the silk wires in the insulation stopped touching. Connections could not be restored. It didn't all go bad. The volume knob gets dirty (inside) and I have to wipe it with alcohol and fiddle with the volume knob to get a good sound. OK. Very cheaply made and not strong enough to last more than a year. The biggest problem is the thin cord, which breaks easily, especially since it's usually twisted under the pillow. My cable barely lasted 6 months before it snapped. The actual wiring inside the white cable cover is so flimsy that it can't be repaired even if you wanted to. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I don't have to remember to turn off the amp when I get up. I just leave it on all the time as apparently the battery is only being used when the radio is playing. I only use the radio 30 to 45 minutes a night and the radio batteries I charge with this unit's battery every two or three weeks whether they need it or not. I can turn the volume up or down with the scroll wheel and leave the radio volume control alone. I consider this the best I've ever used

Very good for the price. I suspect the people rating this as one were expecting a quality $15 Bose speaker. I found this speaker to have fairly good sound quality and more than enough volume when used with an MP3 player playing at near maximum volume, with the final output being controlled by the device itself. I bought this speaker as a Christmas present and in less than 3 months it started making loud static noises. I've tried changing batteries, changing sources, changing positions. I have had the Sangean PS-300 speaker pad for a year and a half and it still works. The amplifier works well, the built-in volume control is very convenient. I route the equipment cables through/around the headboard spindles so the amp switch and volume control are within reach (see photo). The speaker itself is thin and lies under the pillow.
