Bought two to replace the two originally installed on my fence. The original ones that got installed were cheap aluminum fasteners that were worn and just plain old. They are made of steel and appear sturdy. I don't think I'll ever need to replace them. I had to take one apart to turn the locking mechanism the opposite direction to get both of my gates opening inwards, but it was pretty easy. They seem to last quite a long time.

This design is the most elegant and efficient I've seen. I didn't know how painful the other latch I had on my gate was until I saw and tried this latch from a friend of mine. After installing just two parts, one for the post and one for the gate, you can easily open the gate from either side by simply lifting or pushing the latch. It latches securely and has holes on both sides so the gate can be locked from the inside or outside.

Very happy with this latch. Pre-measured before purchase based on helpful comments from other buyers on the product page. I didn't use the supplied screws and used a couple of smaller #10 screws instead, but they worked well and the latch installed fairly quickly. It is very durable and appears to be very well made. I'm curious to see how the spring and metal will hold up to constant moisture and humidity where I live, but so far this seems like a really great latch.

I would love to write more reviews but this is the one that is required. Bought a house recently and of all the little things that needed fixing, the flimsy standard latch that most gates have (and fall apart after a few hard closures) this was a must for me. The latch came with vinyl self-tapping screws. I had to go to a hardware store and buy eight 1" round head stainless steel sheet metal screws. The screws were thick. I think it's a #10 or #12 screw. Great easy solution for opening gate latch from both sides. I find this design easier and more reliable than solutions that require you to drill a hole in the rack and pull the latch out with a cable. Compared to typical locking systems, the hardware is thicker and more secure, which I appreciate for my kids slamming gates. As someone pointed out in the question and answer, all dimensions are given for this latch except for the most important one - what width between posts is required & Gates to accommodate 3-layer latch sections. The answer, 0.75" minimum, 1.3" maximum between gate and post seems correct to me and I'd love to read that before installing!
