More support and easier to click.

I bought these mainly to distribute the pressure point on the feet. There's a little more give, which means a lot to the pedal. The extended part is mainly for snapping when you click. This is of great importance.

A Step Ahead of the Rest

They're not as light and punchy as XTR pedals, but for mountain bikes and everyday trail bikes they're the best. They tolerate abuse, offer a well-distributed platform, and are slightly heavier than the non-platform SPDs that have lasted me close to 8 years. The benefit of wider lugs is that I still feel stable when I'm not buckled up and I find it easier to ride when I'm just wearing street shoes.

Probably the easiest clipless setup for new riders

These are probably the easiest clipless pedals to use. The entire Shimano SPD line is great! However, I strongly recommend using them with polygonal output tips. Especially if you are new to clipless pedaling and have a full carbon frame! I crashed too hard on my bike and the rear swingarm got a notch. Thankfully, SantaCruz offered a replacement after the accident, but it still cost me $750. Extra weight on the bike in a fall = useless. So make sure they are set up in a way that your feet can…
