Check your measurements.

Either people don't know how to measure, or the seller changed the product. The pin is close to 7/8, but my measurements are just over 0.885. (Maybe it's the powder coating?) The hole is also only 1.25 inches, not the 1.5 or 2 inches claimed by some reviews here. If these dimensions meet your needs I am sure you will be satisfied.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Some flaws

Buy American on Shackles

I've used it for light work it hasn't broken but there are American made options available for the same price. A lot of people don't know this, but they really aren't meant to be ridden. If you find them ringing when you're driving on the freeway or you're worried about people stealing them, just do what you have to do and leave them in your truck. and only attach them when you need them. You still need to take them off to attach the strap.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

Frayed edges

The painter had the powder paint on this item a little thicker than it should be. Remind me that's good, in this case it caused a little trouble. I couldn't unscrew this item manually so it wasn't easy to use when I needed it. I had to rummage through my tool box to find a pair of pliers so I could have enough leverage to unscrew and re-tighten this item. If the powder coating or paint was thinner I could unscrew this item by hand. This element should not require tools to unscrew it.

Get to work! in Outdoor Accessories

This bad boy is fat and heavy and he's ready to get some work done! I bought it along with a lifebuoy to uproot a damaged tree in my garden. Though the tree was by no means the most important, it was fairly well rooted in the hard clay. Between that ring and that strap, that tree had no hope of staying put. He just pulled up, clay and all. I'm not even sure I ruined the finish on this ring. The price is a little high for a job I planned to do, but in the end it was money well spent.

Reinforced Towing Eye

Price, quality and value. Here's what I found when ordering a Smithybilt shackle. I've compared the Trailhead shackles I have and found them to be identical to this one. I needed one more than I had so I went for this one. Very hard work. Suitable for tow straps. I also have axle belts so I needed this one. I had the opportunity to test this while helping a neighbor chop down parts of a large oak tree. Very large heavy sections. So I'm pretty sure it will work when towing the car I need them…

Nice looking very strong D rings for trailer security chains

When I bought my 2500 HD truck it came with a Class 5 hitch which is larger than the traditional Class 4 hitch which the most trucks have. Little did I realize that this also meant my safety chain hooks would be too small to fit the holes built into the hitch. To solve this problem I found these D-rings look and work great on the bed of a truck. Now I can install my security chains quickly and easily, knowing they will provide as much security as I need without modifying my truck. These are…

Good emergency bail for vehicle recovery

Most (current) cars are equipped with a towing eye (lifting hook) that screws into a threaded hole behind the plastic cover on the front/rear bumper (photo). I purchased this shackle with a 3/4" D-ring (bolt) to attach a rescue harness to this towing eye. The diameter of the screw-on shackle with the D-ring is approximately 3/4" not necessarily the diameter of the pin , although they are usually close together) and goes through the tow hook eyelet of a car bumper, which in my experience is…

A lifestyle accessory, not a reliable tool.

If you're looking to hang a stylish accessory on the front of your cool off-road aftermarket bumpers, they probably fit the bill. If you're looking to do some really complex auto repairs, you should probably look at a fully certified US made part like the Crosby G-209A [which I'm buying to replace all the SmittyBuilt units I've bought] we got today A restoration done tomorrow on a 2013 Honda Pilot that drove into a snowy ditch at high speed. A Smittybuilt 3/4 strut was fitted to the front of…

TGL vs. Smittybilt comparison

I bought a pair of black TGL 3/4" D-ring braces with these Smittybilt braces. the cost of Smittybilt braces ($18 for two TGL braces compared to 26 USD for two Smittybilt braces in March 2016). The TGL brand looks like a copy of the Smittybilt brace. The Smittybilt brace has the word "Smittybilt" in raised letters on it, but that's about it. It wouldn't do me surprised to know they are both made by the same company on the same line - the threads on the pins are clean and screw in easily - the…
