These excellent thread inserts can be used in both softwood and hardwood. The threads are very sharp and after drilling a 25/64" diameter hole (or 13/32" in hardwood) it's easy to insert with a standard screwdriver. They are made from high quality stainless steel and can be used outdoors with better results than the brass or galvanized steel inserts I usually use.
