Device leaking, porous welds

I was hoping this flow indicator would work but was skeptical given the low price of a fake. I give two stars for the workmanship of the hardware and the pretty packaging. The device looks like high-end hardware, but it's useless if it doesn't work. I installed the device on my welder and set the appropriate flow rate. The welds were very porous. The beads were shiny and free of soot indicating that the flow rate was appropriate for the conditions. Tried my old regulator - no porosity. I…

Pros
  • Gas regulator
Cons
  • I won't say anything

Wanted to go from a 'by ear' shielding flow setting to something that had the potential for more consistency in settings. The device arrived well packaged, feels light in the hand and has a very nice "professional" look. Once hooked up I found it very difficult to open the cylinder without bouncing the ball off the top but I'm still working on getting better. Comparing it to a "nozzle" gauge fits well with the value needed for most of my welding work. I didn't test full range, although I may…

For best results use 1/4 " hose

I bought a couple of these for MIG and TIG welding. My MIG is a stick/tig/plasma combo welder and the other is a straight MIG. I've found that using plumbing tape really helps with caulking as I had to polish a pipe joint to stop it leaking and it makes sense to make sure you don't have any leaks. Argon/CO2 mix in MIG gasses are not cheap so make sure you have a good seal by using warm soapy water to check all connections and fittings. Their flow settings Overall good value for money and I…

Not exactly at all!

The flow meter on the regulator I received is quite far off compared to the obviously accurate pressure gauge on the end of the burner. Has anyone tested this? In the photo, the tip of the measuring ball shows approximately 25 scfh. On the burner I read about 6 L/min which should be 12.7 scfh not 25! My old regulator's flow meter was much more accurate, but the pressure gauge stopped working. With all the positive feedback, maybe I only have one flaw. Update - sent back the one with the…

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • I'll get back to you later

. Love the ball flow meter it absolutely lets you know gas is flowing (my Hobart regulator died a year later with a stuck needle showing gas flow when it wasn't). My MIG welder has been working very well after replacing the controller. I had to change the outlet to fit my gas hose. I had a 3/16" ID gas line that didn't fit an unusually large (.33" ID) barbed fitting. I ended up buying a 3/16" male fitting for CGA 032/033 and a 9/16-18 nut for 3/8" hoses to mount to the regulator. Good work. I…

Pros
  • . Beautiful packaging.
Cons
  • . Can't remember.

Worked immediately. EDIT: 3rd USE AND NOW IT DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE.

Didn't have to take it apart, add orings, dip it in magic. All I had to do was attach it to my tank and hose that ran between the argon tank and back out of Primeweld. I don't know how accurate it is, but it seems to work. Do I expect this thing to last 10 years in my garage? no Will it be a good backup? Surely it worked as it should right out of the well packed box? yup.edit: did he die after consuming less than half an hour of welding time? Yes. It worked pretty well out of the box but I've…
