But good heat protection.

Pretty good heat shield but difficult to install because of the tightness with the starter it shields. Even if you are attaching the screen from the back, do not overtighten the screw as this may twist the metal tab on the screen. Otherwise this shield works very well.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

Will the starter fit on SBC 350

Fits on my 350's starter and avoids the heatsink that plagued my poor factory starter. For installation I recommend removing the starter from the car. The shield fits snugly over the starter and does not interfere with headers or anything else under the vehicle.

Aluminum. not rustproof. The title needs improvement.

The thing itself is not bad. The product name clearly says "stainless steel". The packaging clearly says "Aluminum". To be fair, that's not a big deal as aluminum is probably the best material for thermal protection anyway, but be warned if you think you're getting stainless steel.

suitable for K5 with manifolds

just about fits. You can adjust while the starter is still connected to the engine. However, it would be easier if the starter is outside the vehicle. I have 82 k5 with connectors and it barely fits. I had a very hot starter. that solved my problems.

Not as advertised! Best Performance Parts and Accessories

This product is advertised as 'stainless steel'. This is aluminium. I didn't mind cutting this heat shield for my cable spacing. It really pissed me off that I ordered this exact item because it said it was stainless steel. I can buy all kinds of shields of this style online cheaper in aluminum but that's not what I wanted. Had to use it due to lack of time but would return if I could.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Line is shorter than other picks

No room for standard magnetic cable

Was disappointed with the fit: the screen was bolted at all three points but once the magnetic cable was installed there was no way! The shield's design puts it in the path of the factory magnet wire harness, and in my application these wires weren't long enough to route *around* the new shield. Another option was to alter the screen by cutting out a small access window to allow the magnet wires to pass, but I decided not to do that and instead replaced the starter and new screen with an…

Not as advertised

I have purchased Specter products before and have been generally pleased with my purchase; Both in terms of size and quality. This heat shield is described as suitable for "Chevrolet V-6 and V-8 engines with on-block starters". I bought this specifically for the Chevrolet 8.1 Vortec engine. The starter mounts directly to the block with two bolts so you would think it would fit. But it's not, and it's not close. I believe this heat shield was designed for earlier engines where the starters were…
