Support Heavy Split Charge Relay Review

This worked great as a control relay for my communication accessories in my car. The relay is quiet and holds up well. The only real problem is that the contacts are public and you need to take steps to protect them.

This is what you need for high amp 12v vehicle loads like an air compressor. My experience is that you need something more than a smaller square cube relay. These smaller cubes have wires that are too small in diameter to match the size of the larger compressor wires. This cube relay will last and last much longer.

I had two problems, the first was that the plastic mounting hole is brittle and can easily break during installation. Second, the two smaller pins for ground and switched wire were never properly soldered to the coil and broke off. This caused the relay to lose power and shut down. To fix this you need to remove the plastic cover from the relay, find the two pins and then crimp and solder them properly. After this fix everything worked as it should.

I'm not quite sure what post we have on this relay. The label does not match the actual numbers given in each post. Should I feed 30 post or 87? This is a big problem for people who don't know how to properly connect a 100 amp relay. I will try but I will not buy this brand again. UPDATE: I powered 87 poles instead of 30 and still no problems. It works as it should, I just want someone from the QC to do their job to make sure what is shown on the label really matches what is shown in each post.

I used one of these for my glow plug system on my truck, the system was only supposed to draw about 75 amps but the relay overheated and burned the contacts after a few months. I went to the 120 amp version which burned out in 5 months. They don't seem able to handle large continuous amp cycles. I bought this to use as a relay for an air compressor in my truck. It's a simple relay and it works. As a casual electrician, it would be nice if electrical relays like this came with a simple schematic showing which pole gets which wires.
