Seems to be very solidly made.

I would give 5 stars all round but to be honest I haven't tried it yet because I haven't found a recipe that sounds good. I also thought there might be 1 or 2 recipes in the masa spreader but there weren't any. I'm still looking for a corn tamale recipe and if I find one I'll give it a try. I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful. They really do look like they will make topping the corn husks in masa a lot quicker and easier.

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • Skinny instructions

Masa is not liable on the spreader

The video makes operation easier than it actually is. I had a hard time gluing the masa to the spreader because of the slick plastic. I think next time I'll take coarse sandpaper with me. Also, your husk should be near-perfect in size and texture, and unfortunately, corn husks have a lot of imperfections and ridges. But it really sped up the process when I figured out how to get the masa to stick to the spatula, much to my dismay. Note: Your bowl must be literally free of moisture for the masa…

Not as easy as shown in the video

Takes some practice and has a large surface area so you need to make sure you get the right type/size of corn husk because it's even harder when you get them need the shells together. I don't know, maybe I just need more practice, but I've tried it on two separate occasions and each time gave up and went back to my cake frosting dispenser. The angle you hold the spatula at determines the amount/thickness of masa for the tamale, and even if I keep it flat (the thickest layer possible) there's…

Pros
  • Good thing
Cons
  • Makes me nervous

Works great and greatly reduces tamale assembly time.

From other reviews I noticed that the slick surface of the spreader made it difficult to pick up masa, so I figured out how to rough it up a bit when it came time to use those . The first time I washed the spatula, I used a Magic Eraser sponge and gently buffed the surface to make it a little less shiny. I had no problem finding a good piece of masa to spread it on. Also, some have said that you need to be a certain bowl size to spread, but I had no problem spreading the bowl wider than the…

The best invention! 10 STARS!

At the beginning of the new year 2020 I decided to make tamales easy and as promised this product was delivered. Me and I alone made over 5 dozen tamales, jalapeno cheese and classic red meat in about two hours. WITHOUT this tool I've made a maximum of 2 dozen over the past few years because it took me at least five hours to spread the masa and they all varied in thickness. This tool - GOD sends. Now I'm thinking about starting a side business since making tamal is SUPER EASY AND SUPER FAST…

  • Pretty packaging

In other reviews I noticed that the smooth surface of the spreader made the masa difficult to lift, so I had an idea of how I could rough it up a bit when it came time to use it.
