Wide-angle zoom lenses have always compromised sharpness for distance. But this lens is the first wide-range zoom that outperforms many high-quality prime lenses! This has never happened before. I bought it after reading reviews from Dustin Abbott and others. But its weight has limited its use. I wouldn't care in the studio. But when picking a lens for a walk, I usually pick a shorter, lighter lens.

This lens produces AMAZING (sharp/good bokeh) throughout the zoom range. I've tried 28f2, 55f1.8, 24-105f4, 70-300f4.5-5.6 and 35f1.4 and none of them impressed me like this lens. All have small niches where they fit best, but the Tamaron is a jack of all trades except in low light (get Prime). However, if you use these during the day, you no longer have to change lenses. Tamaron took care of everything.

Just got back from Alaska, look at the photos (including photos taken from a seaplane window). The lens is lightweight, giving you the ability to just hold the camera all the time to shoot at different distances. Every once in a while I've switched to my Tamaron 17 just to get a wider angle. The lens got a little wet in the fog and light rain, as far as I know everything is fine with it. Highly recommended.

The weather hasn't been great here since I received the lens but wanted to post my first thoughts. The lens is lightweight and equivalent to f/2.8s from the Tamron E. series mount. The in-camera stabilizer works very well at 28mm. Shutter speed 1 second without problems - you can shoot a sharp night landscape at F4. At 200mm you can shoot at a shutter speed of 1/50 sec. But if you calm down, hold your breath, shoot in silent mode, press the button very smoothly, you can get a sharp frame at 200mm for 1/5 sec.
