They were REALLY difficult to cut. You do NOT have to cut both sides. BUT you will need to measure yourself and make note of where to cut as their measurements say half an inch is an inch assuming you will be cutting on both sides. For example, you might want a kitchen knife to cut through the top and bottom plastic frames with a wiggling motion.
