The wire that comes with the kit is very small and breaks easily. I have wire attached to the bottom of my wire fence that keeps my dogs out. (a dog can jump a fence) suggests why we bought this. Sometimes when my dog is lying in the middle of the backyard, the collar shocks him randomly. It's hard to tell by the collar what program is running without starting with a flashing light to find out. For the money I think it's the right one.

Our dog jumps over the fence, that deters him. However, we tried without a fence and he drove right over it. I think the fence slows him down enough to electrocute him and now he can't get near the fence. So it works for what we need it for, but I don't think it will work in soil at all unless the dog is very slow. The box works great but the wire breaks easily so have wire cutters and tape handy. For the money I find it works as expected.

We thought about building a traditional fence for our front yard to keep our dog from running around. It was a lot easier to install (I placed it above ground) and a lot cheaper. My dog reacts to the horn setting and I didn't have to use the shock. It took her less than a day to figure out the limits of what was a lifesaver. I have two collars for one dog so I can charge one while using the other. The battery lasts a week so you might not need two. This is a great system at an affordable price.

When everything is properly set up and tested, my dogs cannot lift their heads and have to constantly walk around as if sniffing the ground. If the collars aren't pointing down toward the ground, they'll start falling off like my dog is approaching a boundary. If the collar is pointing down and I move towards the boundary, the collar works, but if I mimic the dog's head in a normal upright position, the collar will turn off no matter where I am within the boundary. This is the second system I am using. I have been using the system for 1 month. Unfortunately this system has some disadvantages and I have used it on two dogs with two collars.
