The bristles are attached to a strip of metal that slides into a frame bolted to your door - I didn't cut the one I had because I couldn't use it, but based on the way it was made it would easy to cut it to size because you cut the frame and then cut the metal at the bristles. I tried to find another way to use it because it's such a good product but I couldn't so I had to return it.

I have a gate that swings on an uneven slope. When closed, it falls to the ground on the outside of the gate. Openly I have 4-5 inches of clearance - enough to worry about the pup coming out. I expected this to be a project. I figured I would have to trim it to accommodate the sloping ground. Four holes drilled and screwed lengthwise. Nicely made, very dense hard brush. I'm sure this will be a great and durable bottom door brush and worth the asking price if that's what you want it to be.
