The pump handle does not lock when not in use. This means that the handle (or body) can slide down and affect the ride. The best pumps have a swivel feature that locks the handle in place, ensuring the pump does not move freely and is held securely by the frame mount. I got my tires up to about 85-90psi probably in 250 pumps and could probably go on but it becomes kind of a test for the arm muscles when you get to about 80-85psi inches.
