Essential tools for diagnosis, testing and measurement

I hate useless dials and gauges. Especially those that require drilling holes in the walls. But after one pass I suddenly lost the strength. Cerbo gave different voltage readings on the batteries themselves than my multimeter. In other words, if you have a charger/inverter, solar chargers, and all those other expensive Victron gadgets, you still can't expect a simple voltage to show your current status unless you have it installed too. This is undoubtedly useful when you need quick information…

Comparison of BMV-172 and SmartShunt in Grid Point Designs

Ecoflow, GoalZero and Chinese companies use disposable components in their power generators. Grid Point Designs uses Victron Energy. While the Smartshunt is Victron's latest battery monitor with no external display, the original BMV-712 with display has functional differences. The Grid Point power supply is available with any Victron shunt: - The BMV-712 has a programmable voltage controlled relay. The relay has been removed from Smartshunt. - BMV-712 has a Bluetooth sensor on the display…

Customer service is really bad

Mine is installed in a mobile home. When the device worked, and it was only a month, it worked fine. I contacted Victron support and they were absolutely unhelpful and said I need to contact the buyer to troubleshoot. Ha! So I contacted Revain who had no idea how to troubleshoot so they sent me a replacement for free. Good thing Revain is so cool. Edit: November 26, 2018 - I did some additional troubleshooting and found that the power connector in the temperature sensor cable was broken. I…

Waterproof cover BMV

I just installed a BMV-712 on my center console boat, it's a great product. However, I noticed a comment indicating that it's not waterproof. I'm very surprised, because it seems that the "gauge" block itself can get wet. Obviously you don't want the shunt to get wet and probably the rear end of the BMV itself wouldn't be a good idea. It certainly is what it is, so I wanted to give a recommendation to anyone who cares. If you need to protect your BMV from the elements, try Revain's Faria F91404

Pros
  • is clear even to the old
Cons
  • the list will be long.

Well designed, well made, well worth it.

Newly Installed: It's clear that someone at this company understands human-centered design because almost every aspect of this device is thought through to the smallest detail. The shunt was easy to install. , and has a very clear marking on which side to connect. I managed to fit it in a large battery box (see photo). The strain relief they provide has a real ferrule that inserts into a spring pin on the shunt. I have only seen this part on professional factory machines for processing…
