Metamask is a centralized wallet which you can use to store, hold send and receive crypto of your choice used for exchange at various exchange platform support ERC20 token, with little fee, mostly it's transaction fee is a gas system ethereum base system where a user can be able to set his fee during transaction manually this can determine how fast you want your transaction to be executed. With the extension on your computer you can link your ether wallet too.
Like most wallet today metamask generate a phrase passcode which a user can use to access his wallet and can be used when he want to access his wallet using another device without it a user can't access his account and this passcode is only available to a user for security purpose.

I really like tiw wallet a lot. It's updated enough to offer the best expeerience on storage and trading, although it's sometimes less safe because it work 24/7 connected to the internet.
