Not so easy to choose, but still not very good.

I'm a beginner at assembly and it took me hours to put this together and I've only done it twice. Definitely harder to crack than a Chinese 10D Master Lock clone. It is also manufactured to much better tolerances. However, I believe it can be opened instantly with a tool that pushes all the pins far enough (I don't have that tool so can't try it). It's also a very light, thin, thin feeling. Using brute force and tools that fit in your pocket I'm sure this can be done quickly, either with handโ€ฆ

Same bit as 146D, wrong key opened it

Opened with a different key. This alone guarantees 1 star for fair use. Full disclosure, like many other reviewers, I'm using this as a practice lock to crack. I mean I would. It's so incredibly easy to open that it's not even good for *learning locks*. My wife, who had never held a picklock in her hand and had never seen the inside of the lock, picked it up in under 10 seconds. All in all, the clamshell packaging is a major hurdle, again justifying 1 star for illegitimate use. Avoid!

DO NOT BUY THIS LOCK UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. I bought this lock to practice lockpicking, a hobby I started YESTERDAY. I was completely blown away by how absurd, pathetically easy it was to put this together with minimal knowledge and poor quality tools. I can do it in about 5 seconds after I feel it. It wasn't even good for lockpicking practice! I didn't learn anything from it because it was so easy.

Mediocre for lockpicking practice

I bought this as part of a lockpicking development kit. It has a coil pin which I was hoping would be at least a little tricky. Unfortunately the only problem with this lock is that it has terrible feedback. I opened it up within minutes and moved on to the next. If you are a beginner looking for a simple security lock picker, you should skip this one. Instead, contact Brinks directly at 162-40001. Unfortunately, if you are going to use this lock to lock something, I have no other opinion thanโ€ฆ

  • Vulgarity

A good lock for basic hacking, a bad lock for security.

I bought this lock as a beginner's target, it's not difficult to pick even for a complete beginner, but there is a serrated security pin (this may vary from lock to lock) that helped me while learning helped how one feels for the castle. At least for my particular bits and pins, the lock isn't that easy to pick (your mileage may vary), but it can be picked with a pick or simply by sticking something into the back of the lock and pulling the shackle mechanism to the side. Essentially, this lockโ€ฆ

Spend $6 on a lock, get a lock good enough to protect your goods for $6

Master locks are commonly considered props of "security theater" since they can withstand more physical blows than most other locks from other companies, but the moment you pick up picking tools, they fall apart. Because of their size and price, they actually have trouble picking locks due to their MUCH higher manufacturing tolerances. although something so small and at this price point really doesn't pose much of a hindrance to a determined troublemaker. I bought it as a "beginner" lockpicker.

Pros
  • Good product for its price
Cons
  • weak
