Finally a work center!

USB on Mac had its own problems. After looking through 4 brand new USB hubs from 4 different manufacturers, I finally found one that works perfectly with my mid-2012 Mac Pro! My main problem was that after I put my Mac to sleep, I randomly lost ports when waking up the computer. This Vantec port based on the VL812-B2 controller works perfectly! When I wake up the computer even after a deep 10 hour sleep, all ports come back every time! No more crashing hard drives. All the other hubs also had…

Overall a good product but some ports are missing

Update November 1, 2014: The port connected to one of my primary USB 3.0 external hard drives keeps dropping the hard drive for no reason. I suspect a wiring problem. What does the seller say? I have no idea. After hours of searching for my next powered USB hub, I decided on this model for the following reasons: 1) Aluminum body: not bulky but heavy enough to stay on my desk. 2) USB 3.0 ports 3) Activity lights for each port I used two USB 2.0 hubs, both powered, but one of them had problems…

Works well and does what it's supposed to do

The USB 3.0 ports are on the back of my computer, so plugging and unplugging a flash drive is quite difficult. I bought something and decided on this one. Ports are a little strange; Sometimes I have to play with the port to make it recognize my flash drive. I can't tell how fast it is because I don't have any software to test it, but my computer recognizes it as 3.0 because it doesn't give me the "runs faster on a 3.0 port" message that I get when I do insert the flash drive into regular USB…

Will light up again - Computers and accessories

I have had this product for two years now and am looking for a replacement. It seems to have a habit of disconnecting (if that's the right term) with devices attached to it. I have 3 out of 4 ports constantly occupied by different USB external hard drives. The hub seems to randomly decide not to show one or more mapped drives when I transfer files in Windows Explorer. When this first happened I thought maybe it was just a problem with the WD MyBook (USB 3.0) drive. I've updated the firmware on…

My Retina Macbook Pro Dock running Linux

I got a 15 inch Macbook Pro Retna at work and needed it to support dual display monitors and gigabit ethernet. With Gnome Ubuntu (3.10/13.10) this device works great as a docking station for my external USB sound card, keyboard, mouse and wired ethernet connection. The only downside that exists so far is that when I have the hub's power supply plugged in, I sometimes have to turn off the hub completely (disconnect both the connection to the computer and power to the hub) for my computer to…
