You will need a lot of elbow grease

This was the first time I had to remove mastic from concrete, it was a bear. I sprayed this product on the mastic and waited three hours. I used a 4 inch scraper and removed most of it. So I sprayed the surface a second time and waited two hours. He took off half of it, I went on and worked my way through again, switching blades as I went. This stuff works, but you have to leave it on for at least three to four hours and be ready to do it a second time. It copes well with glue on its own, but…

It Really Works: Building Materials

This is the only product capable of removing 1950's mastic from a concrete slab under an old asbestos tile floor. You pour it on the mastic, leave it overnight, and then scrape it off. I used a scraper with a long shaft. It's "lemony," so it smells like orange instead of chemicals. Most of the mastic comes out as a sticky goo, although a few spots were still sticky and needed some more scraping. After scraping, I poured in a gallon or two of concrete degreaser and scrubbed with a long-bladed…

Absolutely works! for floors

I removed the marble tiles from our 1957 house. Although the vinyl floor had been removed before tiling, there was a lot of dried black putty on the floor. I tried a product from one of the big stores and spent a whole day trying to get it to work - and seriously injured my knees - to no avail. The Blue Bear 500MR started working immediately and I left it on for 4 hours. The results were impressive and I couldn't be happier. I just wish I could start with this and not waste my time on another…

Order at least twice as much as you say and leave the cup clean afterwards.

After reading the reviews I decided to order a gallon instead of a litre. Good move. I used about 95% gallons per 200 square feet. I had to repaint the really thick areas with a brush and some MR500. It worked great. A simple green cleaned up the mess nicely. I accidentally smeared some of the dissolved mastic onto several surfaces. There was also a film of mastic on the bucket for mopping. A simple green will not remove it. Luckily I still have some MR500 left. He cleaned my bucket, shoes…

penetrates aerated concrete and contaminates, odor remains

I (surely) removed old asbestos tile in the basement and used it to get rid of the black putty underneath. The product is really effective at softening the fondant and making it removable which is why I give it so much. but the process becomes a nightmare if you don't have perfectly smooth and durable concrete underneath. TL; DR: This is an oil-based product that penetrates concrete and essentially contaminates it, preventing other coatings (including self-cleaning leveling substrates) from…

Epic Fail - first random test

The product slowly absorbs into the mastic making a big mess. Removing the mastic did not help and cleaning is still ongoing. We also used cheap corn oil in a small test area. I would say Blue Bear works about 10% better than regular corn oil and neither works well. 6, 12, 24, 48 hours, . Prolonged on did not improve performance. I assume that mastic is not the same as mastic. So if you decide to try this product, I would recommend taking a small amount for testing purposes. Don't pour the…

This mastic remover worked great when I did it right.

PROJECT: 58 year old black asbestos putty for cracked, battered, peeling asbestos tiles. WHAT I USED TO REMOVE THE MASTISH: - Blue Bear 500MR - Rust-Oleum Concrete Degreaser - Rubber disposable gloves - A cheap throw away scraper. A cheap throw away brush. Disposable overshoes. litter box. metal shovel for dust. (No paper towels) BRIEF STORY First attempt: Soak for 2 hours Result: Kind of worked, but not quite - There was still a lot of water on the floor and my patience ran out after lifting…
