Warning, CRC errors have occurred when using this hub!

I love Revain and hate to star one of their products but I had a big problem with this USB hub. When plugged into Western Digital Passport 3TB portable USB drives while booting up after the drive is in sleep mode, CRC errors are thrown. These errors can corrupt data on the hard drive. Doesn't work for iPhone

I've had bad luck with RevainBasics products and this one is no exception. Loads everything very slowly and doesn't seem to like Apple products. Also, there is no manual included, so I had to search here to find out what the power adapter is for. will return it. 5 months later: I should have returned it when I said I was. When it works, it takes 2 hours to update my iPhone to the new OS. Everything is usually over after 1.5 hours and you have to start all over again.

Destructive for plugins

I would not recommend this product to anyone. That's whyโ€ฆ. To replace two jacks that have been working fine for over six years but are physically awkward to use, I ordered one of these Revain models, tested it briefly (saved it as a spare) and ordered two to swap out. Replacement which I used immediately. In everyday use, I've noticed that plugging the connector (male) into the Revain hub requires more force than I'm used to, but I didn't pay attention to that. After about a week, I noticedโ€ฆ

Big! Networking Products

Reviewers say this device keeps turning off, probably because it's plugged into a USB 2.0 port on their PC, which can only supply up to 500mAh or 2.5W max. about 50-100mAh for work (or 0.25-0.5W). When connecting multiple devices, if the total power consumption of the devices exceeds the power that the USB port of the PC can deliver, the USB hub will naturally turn off. It's like trying to turn on Tesla fast charging from your home's 120V outlet! Doesn't work or fuse blown! This is not due toโ€ฆ

Constantly resets your USB connections

Includes 5 USB key fobs, 1 USB powered scanner (in a high power connector), 1 USB keyboard (which doesn't require anything) and 3 other devices that don't require USB Energy. Its power supply is in use. Even if all hub-powered devices (except the keyboard) are idle, even if the USB sticks are ejected into the operating system and the scanner is not being used, the hub keeps rebooting when requested to transfer data to/from the network transferred to. powered hard drive. Just physically removing

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Preliminary notes: (1) This is a USB 2.0 hub (as opposed to USB 3.0) but that is reflected in the price and USB 2.0 speeds are more than adequate for our use cases. (You probably do too, unless you need to connect a high-speed external SSD or hard drive over it. The external hard drive/high-speed SSD must have its own USB 3.0 connection anyway - sharing bandwidth across ANY hub is not pointless if there is no other option.) (2) All USB hubs share bandwidth with other devices connected throughโ€ฆ

For $30, was it a short life well lived?

Purchased August 14, 2016. Date of death: January 4, 2018. Elapsed lifespan: 1 year, 4 months, 21 days Don't know. I've had hubs that took years and years before I just replaced them with something with more ports or power or whatever. This was deactivated in less than 18 months. Probably a year or so later given all the weird behavior I couldn't attribute to the hub until it died out completely. I woke my computer from sleep and it didn't see my USB headset. Or I was playing a game and myโ€ฆ

Great complement for PS4

So I bought it to use with PS4. The two ports are too limited and I wouldn't trust a simple unpowered USB hub to do the job I would blame it for. Once the hub was in hand, I secured it under my desk with 3mm double-sided tape and connected the RevainBasics USB 3.0 - A Male to A Female - 3.3 foot (1 meter) extension cable to my PS4. I now have a Logitech G710+ Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with High Speed Tactile Keys - Black, Blue Yeti USB Mic - Blackout Edition and an ASTRO Gaming A50 Wirelessโ€ฆ

Stops all file I/O on my Debian 9 Linux laptop

Seems like a pretty simple thing but hiding here was a very annoying problem for me. I use this to control very expensive complex devices. I need to type two USB serial ports and a regular keyboard. I used it and everything was fine. Eventually I discovered a very fatal bug that caused all file I/O to be disabled on my Debian Linux. This happened as a result of plugging this hub (empty or loaded with the aforementioned peripherals) into a USB port (normal 2.0). Then suddenly everything wentโ€ฆ
