) looks good and seems well made Aluminum

I got this drive on January 18th (50 days ago and is it out of warranty?) Aluminum. My 2014/15 27-inch Mac doesn't have a disc drive, which is a shame, but I think the point is that CD-ROMs are going the way of the dinosaurs. Although I only use this drive occasionally, I bought it primarily for booting. Photos and videos that I scanned and transferred to discs and then added to my Mac. A couple of times I had trouble getting the drive to respond and run to read inserted discs. Hoping that the…

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Neutral

ZERO CUSTOMER SUPPORT! They show two 'support' buttons... one for 'chat' and one for 'phone', but neither gives a response from anyone, even if you try in the middle of the workday. So I have no choice but to return the product. What a waste of time. The product will NOT eject the disc if it is "unsupported" no matter what you do (even all the suggestions in the "Help" section. How do you know it's not supported unless you try it?My other external DVD drive turns on at least let me eject a disc

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Not everything fits

Looks and works just like Apple

Works exactly as described. It's a fraction of Apple's price and I can't complain. If someone told me it was an Apple drive, I wouldn't think twice. I was a bit concerned about not being able to eject the discs, but so far it hasn't been a problem.

Pros
  • Works great for me
Cons
  • Requires outlet

Already broken! suitable for computer components

The DVD player broke four months after purchase. Didn't even use it much. Had to take it to our local Apple repair shop to get the CD that came with it and they couldn't get it to work either. The seller only gave me a month to return the product, so I think I'm stuck with a non-existent four-month-old DVD player. Talk about spending $35!

Pros
  • good workmanship
Cons
  • exorbitant price

Not recommended for computers and accessories

Arrived not well packaged for an electronic device. The item itself is quite thin; Despite the aluminum body, the drawer itself is rather flimsy. I connected it to my MacBook Pro (10.11.6) and followed the installation instructions. Inserted DVD. Nothing. Tried the CD. Nothing. Tried a different disk. Nothing. To return. I guess I'll just go to Best Buy and find one to see in the flesh before buying.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Decent CD and DVD drives

It was inexpensive and that's the main advantage. It goes well with the Apple materials and works as advertised. Seems a little flimsy, but hey, so was the price. If for some reason your drive is left there, unplug it for 10 seconds (rear USB port) and then plug it back in. Press the eject button once it starts blinking. . He will eject the disc. This is in case you have a problem (I have a bad hard drive in my computer). Normally you eject from the desktop, the front panel button only works…

Terrible optical drives

I've been giving this thing away for over a year. It *permanently* shuts down and says it just hit a "damaged area". This happens with any disc, no matter how clean it is and no matter how easy it is to play on my home system. I'm talking about shutting down an average of 10-15 times per 40 minute show. Sometimes it starts where you left off. Sometimes you have to find out where you've been. Sometimes you need to restart your computer. Turns a 40 minute show into an hour or more. I tried to…

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Little things

It works - it deserves five stars.

I have a 2008 iMac. I upgraded to Maverick when it became available. To my annoyance, my iMac has stopped reading my Seagate 3TB external hard drive. All my music was stored on that disk. Now Apple doesn't just let you download from iCloud again, you can only do that if you bought the music from iTunes as far as I can tell. So I have to re-import my CDs. Also, to my annoyance, my iMac's CD/DVD drive is very erratic and won't recognize most of my CDs, just ejecting them. I was about to give up…
