Okay I hope. : Tools

I bought this to replace a faulty float switch that is in the bilge on my 17ft boat. Good: It's the same switch that failed, so I don't have to drill new mounting holes. The bad: It's the same switch that failed, which doesn't bode well for its predicted longevity - the original was only five years old. Keep your fingers crossed. By the way, getting a call from the harbor master that your boat is sinking is pretty exciting!

Doesn't last very long!

Bought this item in August 2018. The boat left the water in early October. It's the 4th of July and now it's broken. However, a lot has accumulated in my hold, my boat is leaking, so it turns on for about 30 seconds every four hours. My boat is on the water from May 1st to October 1st. Luckily I don't trust a circuit breaker, a bilge pump. I have three different makes and models of pre-engineered pumps and different makes and models of float switches.

Auto Fit Best

We received this and installed it on our boat and have been very pleased. We had other switches that were triggered by a switch outside when the water in the boat well reached a certain level. It's great because of the switch that's on the bottom. Those with the switch on the outside tend to linger with junk or stop working. It gave us no peace of mind, especially when we get caught in a torrential Caribbean rain and don't have to worry about the float switch turning the pump on.

Bad design is not good for grip.

No no no. Worst switch ever. I have two wooden boats; one with 5 bilge pumps. The switch is always a problem. None of them will last long, but this one has a very poor design. The small post protruding from the side has a limiter that prevents the float from going too far into the hull. The problem is that the switching point occurs at the exact moment the stop is pressed. After some time, the switch stopped turning on, even though the float was submerged. A slight pull activates the switch…

Attwood Float Switch with Cover

Float switch is good and works as advertised. It's a bit heavy and the cover is removable if you just want to use the switch without the cover - there are only two screws on the side. If you install it with a cover, the screws go from the top. I am not happy with this float switch just because it activates/turns on the bilge pump at a very high level. Approximately two inches + click. That's a lot for a boat since the surface area inside the boat can be very wide and, for example, two inches of

Very good but not failsafe

IMO there is no totally reliable bilge pump float switch, but this switch is head and shoulders above the rest. The marine environment [wet, wet, corrosive] and the conditions between and during use [shocks, vibrations, temperature changes, etc.] are a challenge for any mechanical device. The poor old float switch ends up in or under dirty, oily water, with everything from leaves, sand, and rusty fish hooks as companions. Add to that our tendency to set it up and forget it until it fails, which

Nice try but unreliable

I bought this float switch to replace an old broken float switch that contained mercury. The Attwood float switch contains no mercury, it is a purely mechanical switching function. I bought this version with a lid because my boat's hold is clogged with hoses and the lid protects the float from tampering. It was easy to install and seemed to work fine at first glance. However, there were a few times when I visited my boat and found that the water level in the hold was high enough for the float…
