High-quality, large-volume external aquarium filter.

We bought this unit to replace an identical unit that had worn out after 20 years. I expect this device to last 20 years. We have a second device that we also bought 20 years ago and it still works. The only difference is that filter media "strategy” has changed over the last 20 years. It's a lot easier (and less messy since there are no loose charcoal pellets). Interestingly, you can buy a spare canister (I don't know why) and not a head (pump) block separately. The canister is cheap, the pump

Great simple filter

Great filter. Simple and clear, a plus for me. Fewer small parts to break/loosen. Supplied with all media and isolation valves to aid in maintenance. I have had my model 2213 for about 7 years without any problems. My only gripe would be the lack of a "bucket" on the 2217 compared to the 2213. This "bucket" makes it a little easier to eject all media. Another issue is how easily the little rubber feet come off. It was never really a problem, but I ended up unknowingly losing one. All in all a…

Please do not buy this filter, there are much better filters out there

If I could give zero stars I would. Dear Eheim, There is no excuse for such a pathetic justification for a filter and charging for it. Halftime takes 45 minutes to run after cleaning. The top clamps will not close if not installed properly, causing flooding on the first 3 attempts to start. In 2020 there is no reason for GD not to have an automatic start mechanism on every quality canister filter. That makes the gas station an absolute nightmare when there is none. Not to mention the lack of…

Home is the best. - Aquarium pumps and filters

2217 I bought this 4 years ago used. Since then I've only had to replace a few tubes. I started using it with 55G and now I use it with 75G. What I like most about this filter is how much space you have for the filter material. I customized my rig to 8 stages adapted to my well water which is 7.8 PH and 25 GH at the tap outlet, from bottom to top: carbon filter, ultra coarse filter, 2 cups of peat pellets, 1 liter mechanical filter, coarse pad, Water softening pad, 1 liter Substrate Pro, thin…

Eheim is a good choice

I have had several Eheim canister filters and now use two of these 600 (2217?) in my 90 gallon tank. Very quiet, absolutely reliable. People complain that they can't prepare them and I have to say they must be idiots. It's easy to do. They take a few seconds to start if you start with a full canister. I also drill a hole a few inches below the waterline in the outgoing siphon tube so the filter doesn't drain your tank if you have a catastrophic hose disconnection. This step used to be common…

Pros

Still the best canister filter - after so many years

Use for a freshwater cichlid aquarium in parallel with a soil filter powered by two small AquaClear 30 pumps The Eheim Canister Filter has a great design, I use the canister filter in combination with an Aqua Advantage 8W UV pendant which gives about the right amount of power for this unit (16W would be nice). also fit). A major advantage of the classic Eheim is its ultra-simple canister design with no compartments or modules. They pack your filter media in any order or combination, and water…

Do not exaggerate! Just get it!

What started as a cute little 10 gallon aquarium to liven up my living room has now grown into 6 55-180 gallon aquariums throughout my house (and a pond in the back!). There you have it, cute and easy-care aquarium! Since getting my first aquarium a few years ago I have learned so much about this hobby and have tried almost every brand in every style of everything you need for an aquarium. The sky leveled just right and the heavens opened up when I ordered this filter! This is the original…
