I used this kettle daily for about 2 years before it rusted, luckily it's covered by Le Creuset's 5 year kettle guarantee so I was concerned about this one problem to her. It has never been put in the dishwasher or misused so I was quite disappointed that the enamel must have just worn away with everyday use. I was willing to pay the price to have a durable product. 4 months after buying this kettle we noticed dark "flakes" in the boiled water. We wiped the inside with a paper towel and were shocked to find a disgusting thick dark brown coating. To make sure our tap water wasn't to blame, we boiled the water three times in a LeCruset kettle and in a stainless steel "control" pot. Result? Rubbing the test cup produced a clear paper towel. I was dying to spice up my cooking games with cookware of known quality and something better than Le Creuset. I had a kettle but it was a cheaper version with a smaller capacity and didn't look as pretty. When I first received it I saw that it had Le Creuset stickers on it which I think should be removed before first use. There was also a sticker on the underside of the lid that had to be removed.
