The strap really helps to support the weight of the bike rack. It mainly supports the up/down movement of the shock absorber with little lateral support. I reattached the strap and tightened it, but I couldn't figure out what the extra piece with the little Velcro loop was until I saw a YouTube video on how to install it. Is it really difficult for the manufacturer to provide instructions on the packaging? So 4 instead of 5 stars.

Bought as an extra support for a hitch mounted bike carrier. My previous bike rack broke off while driving. I have a bike that has been converted to an e-bike, so it's a bit heavier than a regular bike. The breakage of the frame was very scary! I highly recommend using a pair of these straps on your bike rack/trailer hitch for extra support. It relieves the rack of vertical up/down loads when hitting speed bumps etc. The bike rack can fail over a longer period of time.

I use two of these in combination with a Swagman bike rack that uses a 1.25" hitch on my Camry is installed. Without these straps to stabilize the load, the bikes (IMHO) swayed too much from side to side when moving. They are easy to peel off and also easy to unzip. It would be "good" if only that existed. I decided to install the support strap (actually two) INSIDE the trunk, not OVER the trunk. I want to be able to open my trunk. So I'm going to send them back (I bought two). Instead I bought FOUR heavy duty 1500 pond capacity ratchet straps for about the same price as 2 of these items.
