: Getting it to work with WiFi was easy - it just reinstalled WiFi. I just spent 5 hours on the phone over the course of two days getting this modem to work with a Macintosh. Much of this was of course due to the wind current. But prepare your vpi, vci, username and password for your account for ppoe network protocol accounts. And if you don't know your network protocol, learn this. No automatic setup for Mac. And I had to call Wind Stream three times to find someone who knew what I meant when…

Pros
  • Please note: Please read the user manual before use. Update Volume

Good DSL modem that works (for me) with CenturyLink

This device got me connected to the internet in minutes. In fact, the "auto" configuration worked right out of the box. However, I'm using PPoE and I know the credentials for it, so it was just a matter of putting them in and letting them do the rest. Here's another review (or Q&A) where someone explains their settings to make them work. Mine matched theirs except for the PPoE part. The device itself is pretty standard. It has QoS and a firewall which is nice. Not the prettiest interface, but…

Pros
  • Firewall protection and QoS
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors

Working with CenturyLink

Although this simple ADSL2+ modem is not listed as supported by CenturyLink, it worked fine for me in central Virginia with the following configuration settings: Setup tab ": Figure 1 – ATM PVC Configuration – VPI: 8 – VCI: 35 – Service Category: UBR without PCR – Enable QoS: UncheckedScreen 2 – Connection Type – MAC Encapsulation Routing (MER) – Encapsulation Mode on LLC/SNAP BridgingScreen 3 – IP Address Settings WAN - Obtain IP address automatically - Obtain default gateway automatically…

Great standalone DSL modem (ADSL2+) with its own firewall.

Okay, just a few quick mentions. First, it's a DSL-ADSL2+ modem, not a modem/router combo. The description says there is a newer version of this product, but the newer version is actually a router and modem combo, which is a whole different game. Please note that this modem requires its own Internet address (IP). If you have a router installed and it uses 192.168.1.1, you will have an easily resolved modem setup conflict. As an example, I used 192.168.4.1 for the modem. Another good feature of…

Pros
  • Get High Speed ADSL Speed
Cons
  • Appearance

Inexpensive DSL modem to replace my unreliable 10 -Summer ISP provided one. The web interface is no frills but functional, loading faster than the combo modem/router it replaces. Also note that you can store your PPPoE credentials on this device, so your router or hub doesn't have to provide them. So far it has been working flawlessly for 2 months at Fairpoint DSL in Vermont.

Pros
  • Routing Information Protocol (RIP, RIPv2) RFC 1058, RFC 1723, Network Address Translation (NAT) RFC 1631
Cons
  • There are errors

Works with AT&T/Bellsouth DSL

I bought this modem to replace the modem provided by AT&T/Bellsouth. The original modem died during a thunderstorm, but the new modem now has a surge protector on the phone line, so hopefully it won't happen again. The modem connected normally after I entered the DSL password. Luckily I saved this as you have to go to the AT&T website to get it. I didn't use the installation CD, just opened the web admin and configured from there. So far no connection problems. My connection is 6 Mbps and the…

Frontier subscribers should be aware

If you subscribe to Frontier Communications DSL service, be careful! Frontier's policy prohibits you from using your own gear, so the monthly rental for their gear stays on your bill. whether you use them or your own hardware. I call it "robbery, exploitation or whatever you want to call it (to use Mr. Trump's words)". Again, they found a way to get your wallet. There are no rules or laws regarding this.** However, the D-Link modem is working properly. ** This complicates the return! Before…

A good basic DSL modem with no fancy features.

Good basic DSL modem, without fancy features etc. Yes! Full text user interface! Lack of broken graphics (e.g. GIF/PNG/JPG) in the administration web interface. It's a bit tricky to set up at first as I keep entering the wrong password on the initial "Quick Setup" option. However, I have also noted below the three most important menu items that you need to know after the initial setup of this modem, including how to change the ISP login password and the menu to monitor service problems. My…
