Easy Install with Special Tool

This was an easy install with the recommended tool. Only 10mm, 12mm and 22mm heads are needed to work. Check out YouTube and you're good to go. I'm in my 70's I think you can do it.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Secret

No problem with parts

Like others I thought it was too small but it stretches to fit the display and you really need to buy an installation tool or see if they can be borrowed can a store. , friend or auto parts store. I bought this Gates 91031 Engine Tool and used YouTube to understand the technique.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • I won't say anything

Easy to install - Serpentine

I installed this belt on my 2010 Subaru Forester. Easy to install, good quality and great youtube support videos which give me confidence to install as it uses a similar engine to mine. You need the Gates 91031 Engine Tool a to make the installation really easy. I highly recommend this product.

Pros
  • Great product
Cons
  • Not sure

If you are converting this into a Subaru make sure you have the Gates tool to install it and make sure you put your car in put in neutral when trying to turn the crankshaft (22mm bolt). Even the Gate videos don't bother to tell you that. Make sure the grooves stay on the pulley because mine kept trying to pop out and I really had to be careful. Otherwise a no-brainer. Subaru Forester 2010 if you need this information.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Not as thick as other lockpicks

Passed through easily with the right tool

Goes well with my 2010 non-turbo 2.5 Forester! My old belt showed no visible signs of wear (see already replaced the squeaky alternator belt, I guess why not - my Scooby has 75,000 miles on it so theoretically it's time to change the belts anyway. Not sure if I believe the Gates video when they show you how to use the tool and claim that the elastic AC belt wears out at the same rate as your normal V-belt belt change I posted a review there but basically you should look into it watch the video…

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

Good strap but bad replacement

Very well made strap, the quality is like any other Gates product. I've driven it about 10,000 miles and it still looks good after previous removal and reinstallation. It's too early to talk about wear and tear and such, but from what I've seen so far, it fits nicely. I'm trying to balance the bad reviews because while I understand that going to a stretch-fit belt is an unkind change, going with that style of belt was Subaru's choice. The strap itself is well made and serves its purpose. I have

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and chunky
