POOR QUALITY DRIVE BELT

Makes a lot of noise, you think it's a pulley but it isn't. Gates timing belt material is very noisy. I took it to the dealer and they determined it was a belt and again replaced it with their own belt and there is no more noise. Gates belts sound like metal on metal. I would not recommend this.

+1 for leaking water pump

I bought this kit thinking it would be the last time I would need to replace the water pump. Less than 20,000 when coolant began to flow from the pump. As a mechanic with over 15 years of experience installing many water pumps, I will never use a Gates product again. Luckily it was my own car, not a client's, and it will only cost me time and parts.

MADE IN CHINA? for belts, hoses and pulleys

I returned my Gates kit because I wanted Chinese made bearings for my car? I would buy a set for 65€. Read the MADE IN label on your parts. Not all of their items are made in China, but some of them are included in some sets. Japanese bearings are much better than Chinese ones. If I'm paying a lot of money, I want the most expensive parts, mostly bearings. Shame on you, Gates!

Pump leaking after a short time.p

OK. I bought it in 2014 and now in 2017 I have to change the water pump again because the pump seal and pump shaft seal failed. It seems to have been unsuccessful for quite some time, but I don't know how long ago it was. A year ago I had to top up the coolant. That issue aside, the belt, idler, and roller bearings look fine (I took them apart to check). Conclusion: This is a normal product if you do the work yourself and you're good at it and you don't mind doing it every day for 2-3 years (no

The best kit you can get - you save $400 over the dealer.

I give 5 stars because of the quality and value for money. The toothed belt is from Gates - quality has proven itself, the belt is in no way inferior to OEM, Mitsuboshi; Bearings and Pulleys - Made in Japan, NOK logo on it; OEM. This is what TOYOTA uses; Tension – NSK/NOK again; This is OEM. Made in Japan; Water Pump - Untitled; Made in China; Build quality is the same as OEM (AISIN); However, I would change it every 80,000; Use only recommended coolant. In general, it costs about a hundred…

otherwise no such bad work just costs a lot of time

I'm by no means a mechanic, this was the most work I've ever done on my 2005 Toyota Sienna. Issues (sticky bolts on the motor mounts) this took a lot of time but otherwise wasn't such a bad job it just takes a long time and getting the timing right was a bit nervous but these parts seemed great and did a great job , perfect fit for my car and seems to last a long time (hopefully 90,000 miles!). Hopefully when they are released they appear to be good products. I'll let you know if anything goes…

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • poorly thought out

Quality complete kit

This kit contains everything you need for a proper timing belt change including the water pump. Don't waste time changing your timing belt without changing the water pump and everything else that comes with this kit. This is a project for the skilled craftsman, not for the faint of heart. This Toyota engine is an interference engine and if you get it wrong you can ruin the engine. Also, you'll likely need a few special tools. Before you begin, make sure you have everything you need. Water pump failed in 4 months

If you've changed the timing belt and water pump, you know it's a day's work. I bought this particular kit because of the Gates brand. As far as I can tell, Gates only makes the belt. The rest appear to be cheap imitations. The water pump failed after just four months and around 3,500 miles due to a bearing seal. First of all, this pump, while faithful to the design, is not exactly identical to the original Asin/Toyota. The original has an outlet that allows coolant to drain from the pump…

Another premature water pump failure

I replaced this timing kit with one from Aisin as the water pump gasket had failed. I had just under 2 years and 28,000 miles before the leak was large enough to require repair. The tensioner and tensioner are quality parts and were even the same brand as the original equipment. The belt is fine - I have used many Gates products in industrial drivetrains with no problems which led me to purchase this kit and save fifty bucks over the OEM. The water pump is physically different from the Aisin…
