Don't buy a Weller cordless iron - you need this.

After several excruciating soldering projects, I've replaced my recently purchased but incredibly weak Weller iron with this one. This iron takes longer to heat up than the Weller, around 15 seconds. Big thing. I've used my Eneloop AA in both irons, but somehow the batteries in the Hakko last about 4 times longer, the solder melts better and it seems to be getting hotter. Weller falls out after about half an hour and I would be very fickle in terms of temperature. This Hakko is durable and very

It's better than expected

Not replacing the bank block but not yet wire and soldering on mother in law battery powered scooter, board repair, we have full time camping and some work on our golf cart, it's portable has been great. I use rechargeable batteries, they heat well, I didn't do a time test but it worked great when I used it. I used to have a couple of these portable butane soldering irons and they were great for small projects and repairs, but it hurt when you ran out of butane, although you can probably get it

Best I've found for the price but could be better.

This is much better than the cheaper no name cordless irons in China which have either uncoated or poorly coated tips and will not accept solder or otherwise fail after a few uses. Hakko makes professional grade soldering tools that have a decent tip and at least work. But it heats up slowly and doesn't work well with batteries. This is the perfect application for the high discharge lithium ion technology used in power tools, drones, etc. The iron can heat up much faster, be rechargeable, have…

Great iron, good for soldering

Most household soldering jobs are short, simple and hopefully quick. For example, my wife's battery-powered LED chain stopped working. She asked me to see what was wrong and fix it if possible. One of the wires from the battery terminal came loose and had to be soldered back. I usually took my 120V AC soldering iron. Connected it to the network. let it warm up. So it's usually installed in the kitchen next to the stove so I don't have to worry about the hot iron damaging the countertop. See…

Really good soldering iron

One night my cheap Yahuan brand soldering station died and I had to run to WalMart for a $10 POS to finish building a bluetooth speaker for my grandson. Well you get what you pay for and it was only a matter of time before. I replaced my station with two of these and a small air pistol, and I'm glad I did. This little dude heats up quickly and stays HOT way longer than I need at any given time. given time and easy on batteries. It's also designed so that you can just put it anywhere and it…

Not good for anything other than SMT

Firstly I have been in field soldering for over 25 years (since I was a child) in the automotive industry as well as many other fields, as well as being ANSI and IPC certified. worked under a microscope to make a living etc etc. Hakko is the industry standard and I had high hopes for this product. Over an hour on 4 AA batteries seemed too good to be true. I've used radio shop style butane soldering irons for field work in the automotive and marine industries (or just in the garage where it's…

Great portable soldering iron.

General: I bought this soldering iron to use on my workbench at home and then toss it in my bag to take to work or the shops where I build. Was really impressed with the convenience and functionality of this iron. I use it for hobby electronics and it works well for that purpose. I highly recommend using rechargeable batteries with it (I use Enerloop Pros) so you don't burn disposables as this uses a lot of power. Pros: This is a very basic soldering iron. It's made of plastic but feels very…

Battery powered soldering iron works great!

If you've tried a battery-powered soldering iron, you're probably using a cold iron and you know it won't work properly. This iron works differently, GOOD seems different. I have been involved with electronics as a hobby for over 20 years and am also a radio amateur. We should discuss what this iron does well, how to use it properly, and what it can't do. This iron works very well with thin wire up to 16 gauge or maybe a bit thicker. It also works well for PCB components for projects or…

Unbelievable how well it works

Far superior to other portable soldering irons I have had and on par in performance with my Weller soldering station. If you want portability and also only need a soldering iron, this is for you. If you're looking for a handy soldering iron for home use without fiddling with stands, stations and temperature dials, this is a really good candidate at a handy hobbyist/DIY price. out of them. It's a little heavy, but the way they're positioned over your thumb and back of your hand (when you're…
