Great for rice!

I like it very much! I just wish the rice didn't automatically stay warm for 45 minutes. If there's a way to not reheat it after cooking, I haven't figured it out. Great with rice. Still developing recipes for oatmeal - the instructions say to be filled with rice - NOT! Works better with the whole grain setting, but still trying to get the proportions right. I'm concerned that steamed fish will leave a permanent plastic fish smell (I don't have a dishwasher). But as a rice cooker very happy…

Potentially Dangerous

I have used this product many times. Cook rice well. After the rice was done, I wiped the inside of the rice cooker with a paper towel or sponge to remove any remaining residue. Today I took it out to cook quinoa and it was covered in fluffy mold inside. Upon closer inspection, I found black mold behind the rubber seal and in the rolled aluminum that is part of the lid. It's so gross that it's impossible to clean it without taking apart the entire product, screws and all. And the wrinkles on…

DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY

ALMOST THREE MONTHS UPDATE: Today this rice cooker died and has stopped working. What a waste of money. I had one for $20 that lasted over a year and never had such problems. POS and will probably never buy a Hamilton Beach product again. UPDATE: Still the worst rice cooker I've ever used. I had better luck with the $12. You can barely cook two cups of rice without the top coming off; Just in case you think this thing has redeeming qualities, rest assured it doesn't. Completely ruins the rice…

Cooks well but there are some dangers and missing basic functions

Disappointing, sent back. We've had Zojirushi for years and had to replace a scratched inner pot. Replacing the sump cost more than this entire Hamilton Beach unit, and since we had to replace it every few years, I thought it was worth a try. The rice he cooked was ok, if a little softer than we wanted, but overall the performance isn't very good. Leaking after several hours of heating is a serious electrical hazard. Unlike the Zojirushi, the unit shuts off rather than constantly heating up - a

Bad design Good for kitchen and dining room

I bought this to replace another rice cooker that broke down after many years. I chose this one because of the great reviews, but I think the design is TERRIBLE. The lid is attached to the heater block, which means that even if you can remove part of the lid and clean part of it, the "seal" attached to the block cannot be cleaned. And there's no proper lid to put the leftover rice in when you want to put the cooking bowl in the fridge (so you don't have to do more dishes). It's very difficult…

It's SO SLOW good for rice cooker

Trust previous reviews: This thing EVER needs to cook rice, EVER steam anything, EVER make anything. No kidding: Long stemmed brown rice, 2 cups, took almost 2 hours to cook. Are you kidding me? If you want to make rice for dinner on a Tuesday, you basically have to turn it on Monday lunchtime, add the ingredients, and go. sadness forever. The fastest, he cooks a pot of white rice in 45-60 minutes, depending on his mood. It's also a joke with steamed veggies as it takes about 20 minutes to…

I like that this is a small rice cooker.

I like this rice cooker because it's so small and I don't have a lot of living space so it suits me. Cook rice well. The first attempt was unsuccessful because I didn't read the instruction manual of this rice cooker. I walked away from how I would use my mother more. (my fault). So I threw that batch away and read the instructions. 4 cups of rice and water up to the 4th row. (Oh my god, that's going to be a lot of rice). Then I pressed the keep warm button and then the rice button and it said…

Hamilton Beach vs Cuisinart Rice Cooker

Bought both Cuisinart and Hamilton Beach (cheaper). Boiled rice in both for comparison. Cuisinart cooked a cup of rice in about 15 minutes. Hamilton Beach in about 30 minutes. I find that the higher cooking temperature in the Cuisinart causes the water to boil more and steam to spurt (Cuisinart has a straight glass lid with a steam vent, but if there was too much steam the hole couldn't handle it and caused steam to escape everywhere Hamilton Beach has a locking lid so vapor is channeled into…
