Made in the USA, durable product

I've made a few hitch stops out of U-brackets and channel bars but didn't have time to make one so I bought this one. What did I think I could build a better mousetrap? This thing is pure heavy duty. No slipping and no knocking. The truck camper and the extended towbar have three anti-slip stops, two of which are handmade* in this case. I will replace the other two with a clutch clamp. Made in the USA.

Ignore the price, get it.

This is a strong, durable item. It has 3/4" nuts versus 9/16" nuts on the identical one. I like this better than the other design where the screws are mounted perpendicular to the shaft. This bolt mounts at an angle to the stock and has a friction surface on the stock compared to another design which has one flat on the stock and one on the receiver. I find it a more secure clamping action with less movement. I own both types. Overpriced but in my opinion you get what you pay for.

Full size for easier installation and guidance

Wide enough to easily fit over the wide reinforced section at the end of the hitch pocket, this anti-rattle clamp is used in places where most hitch clamps will not fit. Very well packed and with instructions including photos. I like the approach of first tightening the first two nuts on each side and then once they are tight add split washers and a second pair of nuts. Using a 7/8" deep jack I was able to hook it up in a few minutes and it works great.

Too big to be picked up by the Toyota receiver!

Installed in 2019 Toyota 4Runner. This clip is too large to catch on the bottom of the receiver - in any position, it will slip off the edge of the receiver when tightened (while scratching the receiver's surface down to bare metal). Can be installed through a safety chain as other reviewers have noted, but only one screw is threaded in like this and will bend/bend the safety chain's welded rod and will likely do more damage over time. It seems very strong, but it doesn't fit 2" drawbars.

  • Few competitors

Another update 4 years later

This clamp has been used for several thousand miles and increased their 'social status'. a heavy SUV. It still works flawlessly and keeps the back stiff and quiet. It has been removed and reinstalled countless times and I found a few new nuts and lock washers, the only parts showing corrosion/wear. Initially I thought $18 was too much for the glorified U-bolt; However, written off in the last four years, it was worth it, even at twice the price. Unless I'm careless and leave it lying around…

  • Very good value for money

Easy install, quality product, made in the USA and works GREAT!

Although this tensioner is more expensive than other options, it's heavy, made in the USA, works great! This is definitely a case where you get what you pay for in terms of functionality and quality. I put it on the factory hitch on my 2018 4Runner and had to install it slightly differently than the instructions stated due to the way the hitch is. did. Instead of grinding down the safety chain loop like another 4Runner owner/reviewer mentioned (no, bueno, IMO), I inserted a U-shaped design from

Sturdy and much better than these plate tensioners

The concept we use makes a lot of sense. It pushes the shaft down with pressure. The shaft no longer bounces in the receiver when loaded and no longer rattles when unloaded. Solid parts, good workmanship. Sure, you could put some hardware together and "make" something like that, but I'm willing to bet it doesn't quite fit that way. Forget those plate styles that bend and bend over time. I use this with a 6" AlumaTow hitch and a Reese 15K WD hitch, it fits snugly on both. One thing I will note…

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Hardly any maintenance
