I checked it, it seems correct.

I have to admit it's pretty cool. I bought it and put it in tap water and it registered water solids at 120ppm. I then drained the water, rinsed it with distilled water and refilled it with distilled water and it registered no PPM solids in it. I then drained the water and tested the tap water again (119ppm). Then I drained this water, but instead of rinsing it with distilled water, I added distilled water. 2 ppm was recorded. I then drained this water and topped it up with distilled water and…

made disposable.

I missed the "Batteries: Requires 2 non-standard batteries (included)" information. You cannot replace the batteries because even if you receive some of these "non-standard" batteries, you cannot open the device to change the batteries. I bought it about 4 years ago and used it 3-4 times, last one year ago. Now that I've taken it out of storage to use it, it's dead. How accurate that is, I have no idea. I just used it right out of the box and it seemed to work showing that my purification unit…

The digital display is very difficult to read. Keep .

digital display very difficult to read. Of course, by holding down the hold button you must automatically bring the direction of the measuring end of the device, part of your hand or thumb, into the path of the display. The display is very dark. If the room you are in is poorly lit, you will need to hold a flashlight or magnifying glass to see the readings. (Look at the photo of the block, it even seems faint) The number on the display sometimes flashes, but you don't know what it means! It…

people. This is an inexpensive plastic counter and should be treated with care. It's great for testing my watering solution in my hydroponic garden. The readings are very accurate (most of the time (90%) I would have to guess to within 2% accuracy (when testing on a more expensive lab model - I've worked in a chemistry lab for 40 years), it gets wet or gets some before use Minutes wet, and the calibration MUST be checked frequently, which is exactly what happens with these types of meters, the…

I'll give 10 stars if it lasts!

I should have bought one like this years ago! In the past few months I would have saved about 10 times the cost. I was dumping salt in my pool unnecessarily because my Hayward salt cell was aging and failing and I was told the parts per million was about half what it actually was. The last one is the oooooooooooooooooooooooooo method. Not to mention pricey - Taylor only gives out a tiny vial, which is only enough for a couple of readings. And when I dilute the water sample to exactly 50% with…

Great for everyday use, but the so-so display holds it back.

If you are looking for a TDS meter for situations where your life and/or work does not depend on results, this meter may be for you. Porthole test, factory calibration (calibration solution test), display up to 999 (x10) provides sufficiently accurate results for things like brewing, hydroponics or aquariums, even in high concentration environments. Cons: The low-level LCD is a kind of Walmart digital clock, sometimes difficult to read, and the LCD is sometimes difficult to see numbers like 3…

I can't give a better rating.

received TDS meter on 11/14/17. When using the measuring device, I found that the water values from the well were too high. As a result, I ordered a 342ppm calibration solution to check the calibration of a new meter. On 12/22/17 I received the calibration solution, tried to calibrate the meter but found that the meter was not adjustable. The adjustment potentiometer allowed 360 degrees of rotation without stopping (unusual) and was never closely matched to the 342ppm TDS calibration solution…

This TDS meter is ideal for testing reverse osmosis water to ensure the membrane is still working properly. I have had this unit for a few years now and use it every 6 months for this purpose when I change the sediment and carbon filters in my reverse osmosis system. The membrane cartridge in a reverse osmosis system is the most expensive part to replace and most of them are designed to last 2-5 years. But how do you know when it's time to replace the diaphragm? Do you play it safe and just…

Pros
  • pH Test
Cons
  • Unbelievable price

These gauges are good for what they are and for the price. For $20 and then when combined with a calibration solution (342 NaCl) this can be a fairly accurate and reliable gauge. spend more money on a better counter. You will find that these TDS-4s have very little variation, and often more than +/- 2% as advertised. You can get slightly different readings in the same solution if you try the same thing. That does NOT mean it's a bad meter - for the price, it does the job well. A few things to…
