Hopkins 47297 INSIGHT Simplified Brake Control Plug-in Review

Installed on a 2016 4runner Limited. Installation took about 30 minutes after figuring out how to do it with minimal permanent damage to the dash. I like the easy installation, everything went very quickly. I really like the fact that the display is separate from the controller, which gives me a safe line when setting up on the go. I'm only doing this review because I see so many people saying that lights drain their batteries. No folks, you need to hook it up to a switched power supply like any other brake controller. Connecting directly to the battery is stupid and will drain the battery regardless of whether the light is on or not. It's your installation's fault, not the product's. Hopkins Insight installs easily and I have to say I like it. Three different components (brain, controller, display) were easy to install in the right places. Management is very easy. In just a few minutes I had enough setup to get my 25ft trailer out of the distribution area. I've played with it a bit, on the road and then on the Autobahn, and I think I've set it up already. I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Eco Diesel and used it to tow a 7000 lb load in about 6 hours of driving. The trailer brakes and controls worked perfectly.
