Excellent skillet. Supports the Mauviel standard.

Excellent frying pan. Looks great, warms well and retains heat. Difficult. Unlike many other similar frying pans, it has a practical side. The lid fits well. The only problem, and this is personal preference, is that the lid handle is quite small. I cannot lift the lid by the handle without touching the lid. For me, this applies to all Mauviel lids - I have big hands. This compares well to similar Viking and Sitram pans I've used. Very happy with the purchase.

Nice rondo with lid!

I just got it in the mail today. I also have a 6 liter All Clad which is smaller than the 8 liter with slightly raised sides and a long handle with assist grip. For me they have the same capacity, Mauviel is better finished and without Chinese parts (ie covers). I didn't need this rondo because the 6 quart all-clad is pretty much the same. I like Rondo because it has two extra handles and it's convenient to erase.

and things like beans

I bought this pot to use as a slow cooker, but I've used it for a lot of other things including soups, stews and things like beans. It's big enough to cook a full meal for a hungry family of four. It works just as well on the stovetop as it does in the oven. Any recipe that starts with "saute" or "brown" and ends with adding liquid and simmering is perfect for this pot. It has a large enough base for frying and enough volume to finish the dish. The rust-free surface is very easy to clean, even…

Perfect proportions for a variety of culinary tasks

I had one and bought the other for a friend as a housewarming gift. The layered construction is comparable to the All-Clad D5, but the performance is even better. Exceptionally even heating and excellent heat retention from all heat sources, including induction. Most importantly, the proportions of Mauviel's pots and pans are excellent and better suited to a variety of culinary tasks. Depending on wet or dry cooking and less or more evaporation required over time, you may need a wider or…

Mauviel is Skimping

At 2.6mm thick, this pan feels too light and flimsy for a supposedly high quality product. Also, the body of the pan is only 2.75 inches tall, but the handles extend about an inch past the top of the pan, making the overall height about 4 inches. You could make a pot body 3 1/4 inches high and 4 quarts and it would fit in the same cabinet or drawer if you stored it lid down. As soon as it arrived I sent them back and ordered a 4 liter Demeyere Industry 5 stainless steel pan which has a larger…

Mauviel vs. Cuisinart

Ordered a Cuisinart casserole and a Mauviel M'Cook (both stainless steel, same shape). He examined them both carefully. Cuisinart is three-ply, Mauviel is five-ply, but the edges where you can see the ply are the same size. The Mauviel is stunningly beautiful and feels heavier, but I think that's just because there's so much stainless steel on the handles and it's a bit larger. After all, I've cooked on Cuisinart and for $50 I'm very happy with it. The Mauviel was $225 and I sent it back. I…

Reusable, you won't regret buying it

I became aware of this line at my local grocery store when I wanted a set of stainless steel pans to replace my old ones which I thought were still quite functional , started looking Pretty ugly. The salesman noted that I was looking at a few other lines, my train of thought was the more expensive the better. I'm so stupid. I'm a bit of a kitchen snob. Authorized. She went on to tell me about the construction, how evenly they heat up, and how local chefs prefer them to more expensive lines. The

So far so good for cookware

I've been looking for something to use from the stove top to my little Breville oven and now my search is over. I have a Lodge cast iron skillet which is perfect, but sour foods shouldn't be cooked in cast iron and I'm a lemon lover. I wish the handles on the Mauviel didn't extend that far because I have to place it in the oven at an angle meaning I can't just reach out and pull out on both handles. However, I practiced with something in the pan to mimic the weight of what I usually cook and it
