    Project Portable Repeater

    I bought this unit after using the radio controller which broke during testing. This unit runs well on just the internal battery, 12 volts straight from the external battery was driving the unit crazy. When the charge voltage was lowered to 5 volts the device worked normally, clean transmissions until the internal battery was charged, then glitches on the transmitted signal.     It really works.

    This little box actually works pretty well. I used it with two Baofeng radios. I still don't have the volume where I want it, but it works. It basically switches the audio - the radio frequency isn't involved. This is done by two radios. Both radios must be in VOX mode for this to work. You'll have to experiment, and the instructions are far from useless. However, I configured it for UHF simplex input and VHF output to control a local repeater.     I have a problem with connection errors.

    I'm having trouble with interference when connecting a device and two Baofeng radios to a 100 watt portable generator set.     Works well but needs adjustment to work properly. Here's what I did: 1. Someone posted a video on YouTube of their SR-xxx repeater only working when they spoke into their radio. I had the same problem. I followed the SQL setting (code ##55) in the documentation and set the squelch level on the repeater as low as possible (1). It costs 5 right away.     Attention, hit or miss!

    Be careful, I have two such devices Tested and could only get 1 out of 3 types of handheld radios to work. Depending on the type of HT you want to use, the chances of this thing working are therefore random because even if you get the device to detect a signal on the Rx side, the device may in some/the most cases PPT does not run on the Tx side. Also, all Surecom repeater controllers are pure audio devices with no RF input or output, and therefore the term "crossband" is not relevant to these…
