We have a sick dog whose temperature is very important. I found this product and thought it would be easier to use than a rectal thermometer. He has never made precise statements. Wouldn't recommend it.

Cat ears seem too small to get an accurate measurement - it doesn't help that they suddenly become "Scottish Folds" (those, whose ears naturally fold over the ear canal). this is how my cats behave with it. great for getting room temperature and my own temperature (forehead).

I would prefer this thermometer to a traditional butt thermometer. However, I cannot get the same reading twice. I hold it at a distance of 3-5 cm from the ear canal and remove the annoying hair. The reading varies greatly from a cold dog to an overheated dog from one reading to the next. Good concept but needs improvement.

Veterinary Inspection Inaccurate. I have repeatedly gotten different temperatures when applied to the same spot on my dog. It was enough to tell me it was inaccurate, but I conceded him in the event of user error. I took this to my vet appointment and they confirmed it was inaccurate and definitely would not be used.

I have never used a thermometer so inaccurate. It was fairly easy to use but gave a reading of 99.1. I checked with a rectal thermometer because I felt it was wrong even though I had the same reading three times in a row. The rectal analysis was 104.7 and an emergency trip to the vet followed. By the way, the readings of the ear thermometer at the vet's are the same as those of my rectal thermometer. Thank God I realized something was wrong!

NO product information/instructions where to specifically measure the temperature in the ears of dogs to a different accuracy than the picture on the box showing outside the ear canal . There is NO information/instructions on the recommended distance between the ear and the thermometer to achieve accuracy. Pros: Seems accurate, easy to use and read, toggles between Celsius and Fahrenheit, and lets you choose between body temp, room temperature, and surface temp. Also has memory so you can save past temperatures. There's a lot to love about this thermometer. So why a one star rating? When taking a dog's temperature, you need to hold it close to your ear. When measuring the temperature, there are five very shrill beeps. In your dog's ear. The noise annoyed me and the thermometer wasn't near my ear.
