I have these, I like them a lot. They appear to be stainless steel or something plated as they are quite shiny and somewhat waxy in texture. The bearings are pretty good but I've added a fresh drop of grease and expect them to break in as they could be smoother. The grip they provide is very firm and the little knobs don't go through the foot like some of the other pedals I have. They'll hurt a little if you fall in, but they won't stab you to death. If pedals are the endless debate on the internet, the next thing you'll ALWAYS read is "MKS pedals don't spin right out of the box." TRUE. But I still laugh every time I read about how they spin. MKS Sylvan Touring Pedals are a great product. Much better quality than any similar looking pedals sold at any of my local bike shops. Their style is based on very similar touring pedals that were popular decades ago. Steel axle with solid aluminum body and divider plates.
